Question

reentering the elearning starts it from beginning instead of opening the last visited page

Hi all,

I have an issue with reentering my published elearning. When i close the tab in my browser, and reopen the elearning, it starts all over from the beginning instead of reentering on the last visted page. I had hope with the "self paced learning" feature, but this doesn't work either.

Further information:

  • I'm not using a LMS. It's just the published elearning files on the customers intranet.
  • The Adobe Version is Adobe Captivate 2019 Release, 11.5.1.499
  • OS: Windows 10.
  • Tested browser: (Edge [Version 91.0.864.67], Internet Explorer 11 [Version 1909, Build 18363.1679])

I hope someone can help me.

The only simple alternative to a LMS is to use the bookmarking by TOC.  In the setup for the TOC check the option 'Self-paced learning' and you'll have a bookmarking popup when the learner returns for a second session, asking if learner wants to restart or to continue from the last slide visited.

However there are some limitations to this workflow compared with the much better bookmarking by LMS. The learner needs to use the same system because this TOC bookmarking is based on local storage. Browser may also not have been completely reset. That will also be the case if you use Local Storage by using JS, as long as you want the workflow only on the client side. Ideal situation is to set up a script on the server side, but that is asking for more programming skills.

You need to have a LMS in order to do that. Else you have to know some tricks to store the data some where else than in your browser session.

Why do you test it in Internet Explorer 11? There are so many limitations with HTML5.

    Hi Jacob,

    thanks for answering so fast.

I need to have a LMS to use the "self paced learning" feature? Reading former posts, i thought it was possible to have such a feature without using a LMS.

Which kind of tricks are these to create such a feature? Can you provide further information?

I'm limited to the menioned browser (Edge and I.E) because it's a company PC i'm working on. Those have just defined software and i (generally) can't install additional software.

Please do NOT use IE, but Edge will be OK. Offer that recommendation to those who will watch the eLearning courses as well (maybe within the course). IE will be gone completely with WIN11 and that is a relief... How people can keep to totally outdated browsers is a mystery to me.
