Reporting Quiz Results to an LMS

I have a question on reporting quiz results to an LMS. We do not currently use an LMS, but I am looking into requesting one. What I'm curious on is how data is reported to the LMS from a quiz. Can it be set up to capture individual responses to questions or will it only report overall scoring? Also, how does the name of the quiz taker get reported to the LMS, by Login ID or does it promt for their name upon submission?

Thanks in advance

Hi RStoutie and welcome to our community

While I won't be able to answer all your questions, I do believe I know enough about the LMS process to help in one area.

You asked:

Within Captivate, you choose how the project is identified to the LMS (along with a plethora of other settings that govern how the LMS communicates with the Captivate movie). After you publish the output files from Captivate, they are uploaded to the LMS.

Here is where it gets fun. The LMS is really a database application. It requires an administrator. Someone that enters names, assigns passwords, creates curriculums, adds into these the courses that make up the curriculum and all sorts of other assignments that make it work. Once this is in place, Sammy Student is advised that S/He is supposed to view and interact with a curriculum. So the LMS typically presents a login screen prompting Sammy Student for their credentials. Upon being identified by the LMS, it then presents Sammy Student with the course(s) that the LMS administrator assigned to them. As you can see, identifying the person using the Captivate output is not a function of Captivate, but one in the realm of the LMS.

I do believe that individual responses to questions can be tracked by the Captivate and fed back to the LMS. But I'll have to leave the specifics to someone more LMS savvy than I. This could also vary by LMS vendor as well as the LMS protocol being used (AICC VS SCORM).

Hopefully this helps a smidge... Rick
