Question

Rescaling Project and Size...

Hello everybody!

My original project was 808 x 731 pixels and when I published it, the swf file that I got was 10Mb. So, I go to project -> rescale and rescaled my project to 652 x 590 pixels.

I published the new smaller project and the swf file was 14.3 Mb!

Do you know why a smaller project (size in pixels) results a heavier swf file? What I am doing wrong?

Best regards,

Mario.

When you resize a project, you end up with 2 sets of slides in your library. The smaller slides that are in use, and the old slides which are not in use.

You need to delete all the unused slides in your library.

If your project is still unusually large, you might need to try all the options for reducing file bloat.

    Such as:

Copy and pasting all your slides into a new Project.

Save the file as a new name a couple of times (this only works for some)

Completely close Captivate after these changes and then check the size of your project. It should have reduced significantly.

(I've assume we're talking about Captivate 3. Captivate 4 shouldn't have file bloat issues.)

    Hope this helps,

    K

Thank you very much, Kerry, I have learnt a lot with your comments...

But, the problem is still there. I am using Captivate 4 and I deleted all the unused elents from my library, but the published swf is heavier than the original project that was bigger...

    I am really confused.

    Regards,

    Mario.

    Hi Mario.

    Have you tried the following..

This will shrink your CP Build file..

    1) Remove all unused items from the library.

    2) Save your project with a new name (using 'Save As')

    3) Close captivate by going 'File > Exit ' (In Captivate 4 you will see a closing progression bar that will pop up and clean all the junk from your file)

    NEXT

If your using audio in your movie do the following to shrink it. Captivate has a habit of keeping and reusing old compressed audio.. To recompress the audio do the following.

    1) Go into your library and rename all your audio files (from something like "Audio1" to "_Audio1") don't worry this will not stuff your slide audio or CC.

    2) Go to your Audio publish setting and change your compression setting (if you are currently using 128kbs change it to 96Kbs and encode it at 0 setting)

    3) Publish the file.. notice that captivate will now compress your audio (it will normally just reuse an old compressed audio file if you don't change the name and compression settings)

    ASLO

You may want to check your Video Quality setting (right click your slides to view the video quality) you may have them set to High Quality, When you may only need to use standard.. But if you need better quality then standard, I suggest using 'Optimised'

I hope one of the above suggestions help!

    Cheers
