Responsive Design Conversion Feedback

Hi All,

I am starting to convert old classic non-responsive projects built in Cap 6, 7 and then saved to Captivate 9 and know converted to Captivate 2017 responsive. I have encountered some challenges, below are some tips and issues that I have learned for example: 1) All text captions that are in bullets for instance must be the same size and alignment by using the "Align and Resize the Same Size" option under align otherwise the wrapping does not work properly when in mobile view. 2) Issue is some slides when Uniform text is checked and set to a 12 pt. font, the 12 point font will show even in desktop view while the size text is 26 pt for instance. Not sure why? 3) All click boxes must be the exact same size as the object that it is over. 4) Images near the bottom of the slide must be placed touching the bottom of the slide or the image will raise to the top when in mobile viewing. 4) I have noticed that the quiz slides freeze when trying to move or resize objects. Anyone else have any other suggestions? How are you handling these conversations? Each project I have are around 60 to 90 slides. I have about 30 classic projects that need to be converted.

Thank you,

Hope you don't mind if I add some comments.

Click boxes are normally not allowed in Fluid Boxes at all, because of the 2D paradigm. Read about it in my most recent post:

Fluid Boxes Or Breakpoint Views? - Captivate blog

Or do you use only Static fluid boxes? Know that they are limited when you want real fluid layout changes.

As for the answer font size issues, I blogged about the quizzing master slides, including my recommendations for font size:

Tips for 'Fluid' Quiz Slides - Captivate blog

Hi Lilybirl, thank you for responding so fast! I read your recent post, it was informative! I did discover that I had many issues with click boxes, but once I made the click box the exact same size/position as the object it is over, that the click box works fine over the object for instance. I am trying to not redo a lot by adding change of state objects in for example. I notice overall that the process of project conversation is quite involved! I use static fluid boxes on some slides and others that did not come out right, I have created my own fluid box layout. There does not seem to be much info online about this type of conversion process.

I did ask Adobe and they said soon a new release would roll out to improve fluid boxes. Have you heard when about?

I needed some time be immersed into the fluid boxes work flow, like most users. If you are used to my blog, you'll know that I first want to explore in-depth possiblities. My plans were to write about the 'hyped' feature that it would be a breeze to upgrade a non-responsive project to a responsive proejct but I quickly realized that is was not an easy work flow at all. Click boxes are really included in the non-supported objects (look in the Help documentation).  It is fine that it seems to work for you, but hope you did test it on multiple devices. It is the first rellease of a totally new work flow, and I am sure that it will be improved in future releases/patches. The Adobe team is very much aware of feedback by users, contrary to what a lot of users tell here who are always ranting.

If you ask my personal opiniont: at this moment I would not use the conversion possibility, bt would prefer to start from scratch. First setting up a custom theme with well-designed master slides inlcuding fluid boxes. Then use the assets from previous courses to set up the project My intuition tells me that this will probably take less time thatn trying to use the conversion as it exists at this moment. Unless you have very simple courses of course but that is not the case for the courses I am used to develop.

Sorry, I have not blogged about that conversion, I never wirte about a topic unless I feel I have mastered it in some way. It is just my attitude.
