Rest of Project not working on re-launch

Hello,

I have created a custom timeline in my project by inserting several objects on a slide that are initially hidden and set to Display For Rest of Project.

Scripts are used at various points in the course to show the hidden objects.

Initial timeline looks like this:

Later in the course, it looks like this and the learner can use the buttons to jump to the various parts that have been completed:

Everything works perfectly if the learner does the course all in one sitting but if he/she closes the course part way through and then re-launches (in our LMS), the timeline does not function properly - the images and buttons that should be showing are not and the hint captions display for all the buttons (even though the buttons are not showing/cannot be selected).

Am I doing something wrong?  Should I be using a different technique for this? Shared Variables?

OK thanks - can you please point me in the right direction for how I should approach this? There are Next and Back buttons on every slide in my project but I want to provide a convenient way for the learner to jump back to the beginning of each Part that they have completed.  I don't want them to be able to skip ahead to Parts they have not done.

Why not use the TOC? You can set it up so that they can only vist already visited slides. It is a very convenient way to allow navigation, besides the buttons in the project. You can group slides in chapters, hide slides, etc...

BTW Why do you not use the master slide for Back and Next buttons?

Variables are reset when relaunching the course. Do you use variables?

Not with respect to the timeline.  I only use the Show action as indicated in the image above.

Sorry, bookmarking is limited to going the last visited slide, it will not take into account all what has happened with actions. If you had used variables there was a way to store their value in local storage, to restrieve on relaunching the project. The TOC can keep track, not the fancy progress design you created. I don't like to use 'timeline' because that has its own meaning in Captivate.
