Question

Restart quiz once an incorrect answer is chosen

Hello,

I have a 25-question hot spot quiz in Captivate 6. A score of 100% is required. They may take the quiz as many times as they would like. I would like the users to have the option to start the quiz over right away if they find they have answered a question incorrectly. If I knew that I answered #2 incorrectly, I would be bitter about continuing the quiz. We do not want to make our clients bitter.

Currently, if they mark a wrong answer, they receive a "Try again" message. On the second attempt they are advised that the answer is still wrong and that they will move to the next question. This process forces them to take the entire quiz when they know they will have to start over. I have tried a combination of things to make this work, but have been unsuccessful.

My ideal question flow:

First attempt: Try again

Second attempt: Wrong again. A score of 100% is required. You may complete the quiz now as practice or you may start the quiz over again.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been using the tool for over a year, but I would not consider myself an advanced user.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Christine

There is a way to trigger a reset of the quiz from any slide in the quiz.

Normally you would only be able to reset the quiz back to zero score by reaching the Quiz Results slide and clicking the Retake Quiz button there.  This will jump you back to the first scored object in the Quiz.

But you can also use an Advanced Action (Standard Action) triggered by any interactive object or run-time event to do something similar to the Retake Quiz button.  The Standard Action needs two action lines.  The first action line jumps you straight to the Quiz Results slide and the second action line jumps you back to the first quiz question in the quiz.  You need to ensure you have multiple quiz attempts allowed for this to work.  It's a bit of a hack, but it would enable your users to reset their quiz at the click of a Smart Shape button from any quiz question or slide within the quiz scope.
