Question

Right click causes IE crash

Hi!

I'm in the middle of a large eLearning production and are getting some headaches from the new right click functionality. It seems to be causing IE to stop working although the effects are not consistent on my system or any other test system. It just happens sometimes...

When the right click works it does exactly what it should other times the course will take IE down. I'm guessing at unfinished loops becoming memory hogs. I'm wondering if the problem lies with Captivate (it seems to loop through loads of stuff for every slide), the JS code in standard.js or my flash framework. The framework is pretty simple and doesn't have many loops all of which I've double checked to make they finish tidily.

I'm not getting any hits on Google about this so I thought I'd ask for your experiences - have you used right click successfully? Any crashes? Have you figured out why it crashed? Any other tips or ideas?

Thanks in advance

As I have been using the right click functionality since CP4 was released, just some questions before trying to make suggestions:

  • for which Flash player did you publish the CP-movie, it has to be Flash Player 9 or 10?
  • did the crash occur after loading up to a LMS or your own PC?
  • did you check the Flash Security settings, which could cause a problem (a lot has been published about it on this forum)?

Thanks for your answer Lilybiri.

  • I'm exporting for player v10. edit: my custom framework is FP10 but we're exporting from CP for FP8. Will test exporting as FP10 and let you know...
  • The project is destined for a custom framework that is similar to an LMS. However the crash is currently occurring on various PC's testing the course via http.
  • I'll check the forums. Do you have any direct links you can help me with? edit: found some stuff - don't worry about the links

Thanks again for your time

swiffem,

What version of Captivate are you using?  Also, can you post the code from the .js file?

Cheers,
