RIght-Click not working in 4

Has anyone ever had the right-click not work upon publishing in Captivate 4? I am putting in the right-click click box, accessibility has been disabled, and flash player is set to 8. It works during a preview, but once published, it doesn't work at all. In order to load the project to our LMS, I publish as AICC. I changed it to Scorm just to test, and the right-click did work, but it also still displays the flash menu that has Settings, and About Adobe Player 9 menu items. Can anyone think of anything I'm doing wrong? Are there different options for AICC to work with right-click?

Thanks!

Update: I uploaded, and it works online.

Here is what was required for me to successfully publish a .swf file that includes a right-click action trigger:

    (1) Publish location: Default "My Adobe Captivate Projects" directory

    • After publishing, can move to different directory. If you play locally from this other directory, the right-click action trigger will not work, but if you upload to the internet from this location, the right-click action trigger will work.

    (2) Actionscript: AS2

    (3) Accessibility: Off

    (4) Publish For Flash Player 9, not 8 (even though the help file says 8 and higher)

Okay, I have found something that works.

Reading a blog that Steve Howard quoted, I decided to try publishing to the default folder, "My Adobe Captivate Tutorials". Publishing for Flash Player 8 does not work, as the Help file says it should, but publishing for Flash Player 9 does work. However, if I then put the files in a different location, the right-click does not work.

Right-click's not working for me, either, when I export to .swf. It works if I export to .exe, but the .exe files Captivate publishes are just way too big - much bigger that the file size of comparable .exe files publised by competing products.

To tell the truth, it's very bad that in this post, we're talking about having to apply an involved "work-around" from an earlier version of Captivate for a feature that was advertised as working in the latest version. Don't get me wrong; I appreciate those who are mentioning the work-around to help people out with Adobe's blunder. But that work-around shouldn't have to be applied - the right-click feature was one of the main promotional features for Captivate 4, and to find it doesn't work except when exporting to the huge .exe format is outrageous.

Owais, I haven't tried the workaround in C4, but I can't see any reason it wouldn't work.

Message me privately, though, and I'll send you William's RightClickAnimation4.swf and related files: his version 3 doesn't work if you have audio in your files.

So you mean that this RightClickAnimation3.swf works for Captivate 4.0 as well? With William's article i would be able to implement right-click functionality?

I use IE7, and it works fine. I don't know if William posted an updated version (which he sent me): RightClickAnimation4.swf.

RightClickAnimation3.swf didn't work if the project included audio.

In addition, I edited his instructions a bit to make them easier for my newbie users to follow. If you'd like a copy, send a private message.

In the meantime, you might try using William Heinz's nifty work-around for right-clicking: an inserted transparent Flash movie that requires a bit of htlm coding.

Google William or contact me and I can get you hooked up.

    It works without fail!

I tried William's workaround. It works great in Firefox, but nothing appears when I open the movie in IE7. Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem with the right-click feature. I have disable accessibility, published to Flash 8 (I also tried Flash 10), and tried viewing the output on several machines in both Firefox and IE7. The right-click works properly only on my own computer (where the movie was created) when viewing the movie in Firefox. This feature is the reason I upgraded to C4. I've got a case going at Adobe, but so far I haven't gotten any effective help.

Well it looks like you've been had...the right-mouse click only seems to work when you have disabled the accessibility in the Preferences > Project window, and set the module to AS2. Unfortunately, once you do that it slows the module to a crawl and the controls barely work. Add this to list of additonal things Adobe claims to have fixed in this version, their horrible almost non-existent technical support and the fact that one of these forum geniuses will be on here any minute to tell you to report it to the Bug/Fix team and you've got another prime rip-off. It seems as though the usual amount of QA was done to the product before shipping which is a shame as I had high hopes for this new version.

    Hi there dchaveco

I suppose I'd qualify as one of the "forum geniuses" that will often advise folks with issues to report them to Adobe as potential bugs or product enhancements.

Please understand that those of us that do this are users same as you. With the same frustrations and needs to accomplish the same things.

The tone of your post would suggest you are unhappy with Adobe, and that's fine. But I would ask you a single question.

If nobody stops to report these issues, how else is Adobe supposed to know about them?

The form I often point users to is Adobe's preferred channel for receiving reports. While some Adobe folk may visit here and pitch in, it isn't their practice to use this forum as the channel for gathering feedback.

    Sincerely... Rick

WELCOME to the all volunteer Adobe Captivate Forums.

I am not aware of any different options on the right click because the LMS options for SCORM, AICC, Etc. are all related to the Quiz Module in settings and not the design of the project objects.

Can you try Bring-To-Front in the Order to make sure that the click object has the top-level focus. Short of that, it could be a bug.

You can report the bug to Adobe at:
    Adobe Captivate Bug Report Link

If you make a mockup of your case (Save the project with a 1 or 2 llide example), then let them know and they will email you a link to send the mockup to them. So far, they have taken every bug case that I have sent to them and once in a while, they come up with a workaround to the issue. While we have not seen any patches [yet], it seems that they are indeed working on issues for a possible future patch to CP4. So get this one into the system.

    Hope this helps.
