Question

rollover slidelet timing

I have a few rollover slidelets on my page, and the image only stays up for 10 seconds.  I'm trying to play with the action properties and the timing properties, but nothing makes a change.  It seems like it should be as simple as "display for:  specific time: 30 seconds".  When I do that, the slide timeline changes, but when I preview it only lasts for 10 seconds.  I see nothing in the action properties that makes sense to change.

I do have two slidelets, and on one i have "on rollover: no action" and on the other I have "on rollover: enable (slidelet 3)".  There is no difference in behavior.  I don't get it.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks,

Carl

    Hi Carl

With Rollover Slidelets there are TWO objects that appear on the slide itself. One is the area your user mouses over while the other is the area that appears when the mouses over the first area. Note that each of these has its own timing.

If you click the rollover area and give it focus, the timing you set there determines how long the rollover area is on the slide. In other words, how long the user has to click or mouseover the rollover area.

Now if you click the area that APPEARS after the user rolls over or clicks the trigger area, the timing there determines how long the hidden area will be presented before either disappearing on its own or the user clicks to dismiss it.

So you could have a slide set for three seconds in duration, but pausing with a Button or Click Box. Perhaps this is slide number seven. And you could have a slidelet on this slide that presents for 45 seconds before disappearing.

    Make any better sense?

    Cheers... Rick

Thank you Rick.  Like all good explanations do, it made it totally obvious once I'd read it.  Thanks!!

Yeah, that beastie is often difficult to come to terms with.

In any class I facilitate, I take that puppy in a few stages. First just getting to know the behavior of the rollover and the fact it times out. Then I have them adjust the timing of the timeout. Only after we are all comfortable with the timing bit, then we add elements inside the slidelet and play with that. Seems to be pretty successful that way.

Happy I was able to help in some small way... Rick
