Question

Running in Robohelp

I got good advice here for making a Captivate demo work in Robohelp. Today I tried to do it again, using what I thought were the same steps, but the link gives me a blank help screen. I put the Captivate output files in the same subfolder with the page that should open the demo, and created a link to the HTM file on a help page. The HTM runs correctly when opened from Windows Explore. I used File > Import in Captivate, and the project definitely "knows about" that file. Even looking at the help page's HTML, I don't see any way that this differs from the pages that work correctly. I've looked at the Tips and Tricks. Any suggestion for debugging this?

Rick-- OK, I checked the content of rhbag.apj (as instructed in Peter Grainge's description) and it already showed standard.js in the right place. The result I'm getting now (could be different from my first problem) is, when I click the link I see the demo screen with controls at lower left, but no animation runs. This may involve another point discussed by Robowizard:

"...when you try to import the .HTM "companion" page that Captivate created, it only references the skin SWF. ... So bringing the main movie SWF will (at this point) become a manual and secondary process you will have to perform..."

He doesn't say what's needed, if anything, beyond including both the main and skin SWF files in the same folder (which I've done).

I'm getting concerned here because of a deadline (today). If I can get this working, at a less stressful time I'd like to know the REALLY correct way to add a Captivate demo to RH. Thanks for any more advice.

    Hi Christopher

LOL, RoboWizard and Captiv8r are one and the same person. Me!

For those that may be wondering why the Sybil approach here, it has to do with E-Mail and the Adobe forums. 'nuff about that I suppose.

Christohper, when I wrote that article, Captivate 2 was dominant. Most of what you needed was in the files mentioned. With version 3, we may see additional files (Full motion and animation clips) so that's always a possibility.

If you are open to it, shoot me an E-Mail message to rstone75 (at) kc (dot) rr (dot) com and I'll be happy to connect to your desktop so I can see what is transpiring. Maybe we will see the issue?

    Let me know... Rick

That's the one I meant when I said "Tips and Tricks". So far, I haven't found anything there that bears on this. All the Captivate output files, including Standard.js, are in the same folder with the page containing the link. Under Import > File, when I select the HTM file, RH says it's already in the project. Also, release levels should be fine, because I got the new suite just a couple of months ago (RH 7, Captivate 3.0.0 build 580). So my link "should" start the demo, but then so many things "should" happen in the world!

    Hi Christopher

My reason for pointing you to the page was because you are describing what one might expect if Captivate cannot find the standard.js file. And when adding Captivate to RoboHelp, it's a common occurrence that while things might appear to be fine, with having all the needed files in the source location, the standard.js file is often the culprit. See, RoboHelp HTML has had this issue whereby JavaScript files (such as standard.js) aren't properly added to the Baggage Files folder and you most often have to manually edit the Baggage XML file to ensure it is included with the project. That's my guess about what is causing the issue.

    Cheers... Rick
