Question

Same audio for many slides

HI, I have a little issue with the sound on my project. I recorded an audio file that is relevant for more than one slide. It was recorded directly in Captivate. In the first slide I encounter with the audio, it plays as it is supposed to be. But on the other slides, it doesn't play at all, except if I first visit my help slide (with a different audio) and return to the original slide. Any reason? Any way to fix this? Is it just that you can't play the same audio twice in a row?

I added the pause at the start and at the end. Still doesn't work.

This is what I have.

What about the usage in the Library?

Personally I never had issues of that kind. But for a quick solution: duplicate the wav file in the Library and rename the copy.

I'll probably duplicate it and change the name, that was something I was thinking about as a quick fix, and as you say, it'll probably solve the problem. But I'm still wondering why it doesn't work...

If I open the audio managing window, it looks like this.

Do you see the correct number for the Usage in the Library?

I have used same audio on more than one slide.  Be sure to leave a small gap as usual before and after the audio timeline.

Is this captivate 2019? I created a simple two slide blank project and importing the same audio on both slides works as designed.

Lilybiri, why are you adding a time gap before AND after? I've found that only one is necessary to stop Captivate from combining the mp3s and causing those related issues.

Only a gap at the start will do, but will try to explain why I prefer two gaps.

The goal is dual:

  • Offering bit more time for the audio clip to load, since this has to happen on Enter of each slide. If loading is not ready you may end up with synchronisation problems especially with large clips.
  • Avoiding that all audio clips are seen as one project audio, which for sure leads to bigger mess. I think you refer to this second goal.

Why do I show two gaps? It doesn't take more time in my workflow: increasing slide duration little bit, move audio timeline, both done with the mouse in the Timeline panel.

The total amount of extra time is divided in that case and will be even less 'visible' by the learner. That is again more important for longer clips.  Twice a gap of 0.5 seconds (not necessary for short clips) is less audible that one gap of 1 sec.

But feel free to keep your workflow: gap only at the start (not at the end) probably because you use another workflow?
