Gotta be honest, my inclination is to recommend to my employer that we re-build our library of courses in Storyline because I find it so much easier to use and less glitchy than Classic Captivate (and the reviews of the New Captivate don't seem great). But I do like how things look in the New Captivate with the scrolling design. Right now I'm buidling any new courses in Storyline. I'd like to use Rise instead because of how great it looks, but all our courses have narration, and Rise doesn't have auto-play (I guess because browsers block it so people don't have to hear annoying ads that automatically pop up). Making the learner click an extra button to play the audio is prohibitive. Does the New Captivate have a better solution for this? Can you auto-play narration? If so, that may be a compelling reason for me to use it.

    Hi @Basla284119223x9v ,

Captivate has both options. It can auto-play narration or you can configure an interaction to play the audio on the occurance of an event.

    To auto-play audio narration:

    1. Select the slide

    2. Add the audio file to the slide by selecting the audio icon in the Properties Inspector (PI) panel on the right (highlighted in yellow in the image below)

    3. Choose from any of the Import Audio options.

    4. Test the auto-play narration by selecting the Preview button on the top-right corner.

Let me know if this works for you or if you have any trouble trying this.

    Thanks

    Thank you, Sharath.

I would like to see tutorials or guides that show how either of these two (auto-play and triggered) methods of "narration" work with conversation slides--especially with infinite scrolling.

I have been trying to figure out the purpose of converstaion slides, and how they are meant to function with regard to this issue. It's very unclear whether they are meant to be just one turn of a conversation, or can they be used for a real, extended conversation--and if so, how they are supposed to play (triggered by going to the next card/slide, or automatically). And does this differ with infinite scrolling?

Not sure if this is noted anywhere else but it does not appear that one can have two New Cp projects open at the same time. At least when I try to open a second project it does not open and the first project freezes up. This is a big issue because often I copy objects or even full slides from one project to another. Is anyone else running into this issue?

    Thanks in advance!

Disregard, it it finally worked after several attempts. Guess my patience is kinda thin with this version.

Macbook Pro M1, Ventura 13.4.1. All the above would be really nice if only the new Captivate would even launch a new project. Downloaded and intstalled the new Captivate for Mac. When attemping to open a new project an error message is displayed, when OK is clicked it crashes. Same applies to the templates.

Have now uninstalled the new CP until I get a full response from Adobe.

Hey Bob. Feeling your pain, buddy.

However, there's a couple of things you can try that were mentioned earlier in the thread.
    Check 'em out.

Cheers John. I will have a look. What really bugs me that I should not have to go looking for install info. If the product had been tested and marketed correctly then the install should work seemlessly first time or come with a set of "read me" notes as an install procedure to assist if system settings needs to be addressed. All my projects are in Classic so no problems other than the foiables that exist. Seriously looking at another product for future projects.

Was really hopeful with the seamless responsive design from Desktop to Tablet to Mobile phone, as there is a call for it with stake holders in the Health Care industry in which we conduct our business. However realy disappointed with two aspects of this 'All-new Adobe Captivate -

    1. Cannot publish a module directly to Adobe Connect. This is where all data ie quiz question's, answers and qq text gets picked up from modules published in Captivate Classic.  The work aroung using Scorm is Okay but if our first test is anything to go by, does not pick up all data.

    2. There is no allowance for 'survey' questions. This is a deal breaker I'm afraid. It is very much required in our business. We should be able to measure the impact of content in each module or to able to customise a 'survey' question to our cusotmer's needs

Really hoping Adobe will address these two items at the minium with the next quarterly update. Otherwise there is no reason for our busines to use 'All-new Adobe Captivate' and we will stick to 'Adobe Captivate Classic'.

And the responsiveness is quite limited; break points are preset and only text size can be adjusted among the viewports. I'm a very big mobile first advocate (and if we can have mobile apps, there's no reason we can't have mobile e-learning) and was excited for this feature too, but we need more customization options or media query options in order to make a course legible, let alone attractive, on different devices.

Kristinn and Peter and John Ryan Design, and others!

I have had very nice luck with emailing the engineering support team. They really are listening to suggestions, and even as a total novice (which is in a way, their best case user for this new app), I was able to find problems which they ticketed as bugs. Already at least one of them has been tended to, and approx 4 more are in the pipeline thanks to a conversation I had yesterday with one of them, who was truly kind and helpful and intersted in hearing what needs fixing.

Please email them at tcssup@adobe.com   There are very lovely humans at the receiving end of that email who are happy to hear our suggestions.

As for Cp 12 never being able to replace Cp Classic, I have not used the older Cp versions but I agree with the sentiment that Adobe would be wise to retain Cp Classic and also tend to Cp12. I thiknk they are for different audiences, and they both serve a real purpose. I don't know how to cast this vote, but I know that all the pros here would love to!

    Great day to you all,

More interesting info about this product as I dig deeper.

On the application's "about" window, there are no references to the tech employed under the bonnet, which I believe is a legal obligation - it's using the Redux, gsap, WebPack and React libraries, so by rights should mention this. So when Adobe says that they've built this product 'from the ground up', I wonder if they shouldn't qualify that a bit? Or perhaps Facebook don't mind?

Did I mention that there are NO Web Objects available in this new tool?

Let that sink in for a moment.
So if you have something you made in Animate that you want to be able to pass messages to and from, that's off the table.

If (like me), you have developed a library of Javascript tools, you might as well chuck years of development down the toilet, because this version not only renames the few variables that there are left so that previous functionality is destroyed, but has simply removed so many of the useful ones.

The undocumented cp object, which many of us use to do a myriad of things, has been dumbed down.

Also so many useful methods have been deleted from the cpAPIInterface:
goToSlide (duh) - you can go one back, one forward, but not jump to a particular slide. (probably because they've removed the currentFrameLabel variable too).

changeState - so you can no longer control multistate objects outside of the clunky vanilla no-code interface, and if you have plenty of these to do, then your time budget is completely blown.

There is one bonus I guess and that is the application is more secure than the previous version.

    Adobe - please:

give us a way to package our customised JS code - perhaps a path to a file?

give us secure access to the cp object

maintain the separation of the main.chunk.js file and any custom project JS so that republishing is not necessary.

Have a listen to Tristan Ward's Youtube:

I watched Tristan's video with rising sadness, John (posted it somewhere else). Of course I know that all the Shared actions, Themes and Libraries I built for clients are completely lost now, but it is only due to that video that I realized that much more was lost for JS developers. Lot of useful exposed system variables which I used all the time disappeared, but I didn't know that even the hidden variables for the cp object were gone. It looks like any customization will be impossible, not only to the UI but to all projects. I am a big fan of CpExtra, spares me debugging JS (which I hate since I had to do it so much in my past).

I must say... I've been using this product since it was RoboDemo.  I even worked with Macromedia and Adobe's Alpha and Beta teams to steer it towards a product that would be vey useful, and forwarded great comments to Macromedia and Adobe teams as a Certified Instructor.  I saw Captivate become a very powerful tool - as long as the output didn't really need to be Accessible.

But now everything seems to have taken a step back, not from my own experience though - I still can't proceed past opening Captivate.  And I still haven't received any help from captivatehelp@adobe.com.

So I'm stuck, and it seems like most of the Captivate Community is stuck as well.

    Just my 2 cents worth - V

    Only one step back?

About you being stuck, just a question. I suppose you have both Captivate Classic and the new version? If yes, did you update the Captivate Classic to 11.8.2 before installing the new version? Are you on Windows or Mac?

I have to say I am SHOCKED this is an Adobe product.  It's horrible, and I am hoping that this is just because it's an early version?

The complete lack of layout modification is astounding... we are given a few slide designs to choose from, but can hardly edit those.  So far... this is awful.

Since there is no library in the New Cp, do we need to save images and audio etc. externally and keep them with the project? In other words, if I create a project using images not from the Assets but rather from System and then add audio also from System do I have to keep all those files togther in a folder? If so, when another user works on the same project later do we need to make copies of the entire project folder with the external media? Or is there some invisible library in Cp that stores it all so we only need to save the .cpt file like we did with Classic?

Kurt, I don't know the answer to your question, but do you mind if I add a question to your question? Only because I think it is related.

I am new to Captivate, but it was my understanding that if I used the Adobe CC Suite, I would have an account which would have my own Assets in it - and if I created an asset, say a cartoon of a red mushroom, and I used it in any Adobe project, and then I changed the file and made it a blue mushroom instead, then anywhere in any of my Adobe projects that the mushroom occurred, it would automatically be changed to the updated blue mushroom. So firstly, is my understanding corect? And secondly, Kurt raised a concern that makes me think that if this was a feature before, it would not be anymore, right? Because Cp12 does not communicate with your own personal Adobe Asset Library?

@Lisa31013337pg2c  You are referring to the CC Libraries which are available to all CC applications since many years (2015 is my guess).

Captivate is not part of the CC applications, but I am pleading since almost as many years to allow access to the CC libraries in Captivate. The irony here is that Captivate had an iPad application labeled Draft for a while (now it died), and that application had access to the CC Libraries. While it was available I used it as intermediate app to access my assets in the CC Libraries. Until they first killed it by allowing only responsive projects, and now Draft is gone forever.

The 'all new..' has cut all links with other Adobe applications, not only with the CC Libraries (which never existed). CP2019 has an amazing roundtripping with Photoshop and with Audition, Illustrator is bit less and the link with Animate almost died after the disappearance of Flash player. Moreover each project has its Project Library (another user is complaining about its disappearance today as well), which stores all the used assets and also Shared actions. Such a library can be opened in any (new) project as external Library. It is not the same as the use of the CC libraries but it helps a lot for reusability. I have created many libraries - mainly also for the Shared actions - for clients to allow less advanced developers, or teams to save time. Same with Themes, which are now almost useless IMO.

This seems like the place to ask questions about "New" Cp. I just tried a software simulation and there doesn't seem to be a way to rescale the project once recorded. Am I missing something or is this another functionality they took away?

    Lilybiri

Please do not use the new Captivate for software simulations, but keep to CP2019, only recommendation I have at this moment. There are multiple reasons for that, will not expand.

We are keeping both New and Classic but Adobe said on the launch call that they will only be supporting "Classic" for five more years. I agree that it is better to do simulations in Classic but I guess we just hope they improve functionality in the New version so that we can build simulations the same way. I am tasked with finding use cases for the new Cp for my team since we already reduced Cp licenses by half on the team and currently we ONLY use Cp for simulations. I was hoping the new Cp would live up to the hype but so far I am just disappointed with everything they removed. Thanks for answering me!

No panel undocking in New Cp??!! I have been using this feature for as long as it has been available to put my timeline on my second monitor which is useful when you have several objects on a slide. Is there a feature request page so we can get this added back in? or am I missing something and there is a way to undock the timeline that I just haven't found yet?

    Lilybiri
    Legend

Already in version 8 Captivate was meant to lose panel undocking and custom workspaces. I was so angry, that the Expert UI was introduced, remember that the chief engineer told me literally that it was meant for me. My answer was that I liked to control an application, not being controlled by it. The new UI (similar to XD, app died meanwhile) take all control over the the UI and the familiar panels and docking stations disappeared. Use of multiple monitors has always been a pain, but the Expert allowed at least to distribute panels. It would even be more needed now because the Timeline in a complicated slide can fill a whole screen.

Agreed, that is the main reason I use undocking so that I can see all the objects on the timeline in my second monitor! The main reason I started using dual monitors all those years ago was for Cp and the timeline. Thank you for responding, let's hope enough people make enough noise to bring it back.
