Question

SCORM Pass/Fail vs. Complete Incomplete

Hello,

I'm basically at my wits end with this project so I'm coming here to hopefully find some sage that can help me!

I'm trying to do a quiz in SCORM 1.2 with the TEDS LMS.

I've tried about 20 different configurations attempting to get a simple 10 question quiz to pass/fail in our LMS.

Rather than go through all 20 configurations I'll just highlight my most recent 2 cases:

Case #1:

SCORM 1.2 Mastery score 80

Quiz Results Only

Complete/Incomplete

Report Score to LMS as Score

Reporting Level: Report Score

Pass Fail:  8 of 10 points to pass

If Passing Grade: No Action

If Failing Grade: No Action

On project complete: Close project

Case number one, you go through the 10 questions, get the right or wrong doesn't matter, the LMS will report the quiz as Complete, course closed

Case #2:

SCORM 1.2 Mastery score 80

Quiz Results Only

Pass/Fail

Report Score to LMS as Score

Reporting Level: Report Score

Pass Fail:  8 of 10 points to pass

If Passing Grade: No Action

If Failing Grade: No Action

On project complete: Close project

Case number two, after you answer the *first* question, LMS will report the quiz as "Fail".  I know this because you can update your "To Do" list and see the test has failed, it gives you the option to re do it.

I'm completely stumped, I've tried TONS of different configurations, and I can never get it to work as a Pass/Fail type.  However, don't let that discourage you from suggesting anything at all, even if I think I've tried it, I'll try it again!

Thanks for reading

Paul

Hi Paul,

First I've to tell you that I do use another LMS (Blackboard), but I know the feeling, having tried a lot of configurations before finally I got all working. I try to explain the configuration I'm mostly using (SCORM 1.2 too).

You do not mention the version of CP you are using, that helps sometimes, I'm using CP4.

To my experience the Pass/Fail option is never a good choice, because of the way CP is reporting to the LMS (after each question). If you choose that option, the user will not be able to make the assessment till the end if he succeeds to have the Pass score somewhere midway (hope this makes sense to you, I'm not an English native speaker). So I do always choose the option Complete/Incomplete so that users will be able to do all (and get the best score possible).

CP4 seems to be more at ease with reporting Percentage instead of Score (and I do not have to calculate the % ); in CP-Help you find somewhere this recommendation.

Because I want to have total control (p.e. to change scores for partially scoring in some Question slides), for 'Reporting Data' I choose 'Quiz results and slide views', and certainly for 'Reporting level' 'Interactions and Score'.

You do not show the data in the Manifest file; learnt that I have to put the same Mastery Score under 'SCO' as in the Quiz Preferences.

Just my 2 cents,

Thanks for the reply Lilybiri!

I changed my configuration to match your suggested and it presents with a c case similar to case #1.  When I have it set this way, it passes regardless of a passing or failing grade.

I'm going to continue to fiddle with settings to see if I can get a little closer.

As for version, I have both CP3 and CP4.  CP3 is currently the version I'm testing with, just because it's on my local machine.  But perhaps it's time to shuffle this over to CP4 and see what happens.

(Update) When I did the *same* configuration in CP4, it mimics Case #2 (fails after first question is answered).  Boy they make it hard to like using the SCORM standard that's for sure!

Thanks!
