scrolling text interaction - working in HTML5 but not SWF

Previous posts on the scrolling text interaction seem to indicate that it should work properly in HTML5 as well as SWF.

I'm using Captivate 9.0.2.437. I have a project that I thought the scrolling text interaction was working in both HTML5 and SWF until today.  I thought it worked in both when I created the project 6 weeks ago.

Thanks for any suggestions.

You can check the exact version under Help, About Captivate. I don't remember when the latest version was released, could be 2 months or less.

Maybe a Flash Security issue. Is the location where you published the file added as Flash trusted location? If you use the default path that Captivate chooses (check Preferences), it is automatically added as trusted location, but if you use another location you have to do it manually.

I'm not certain if it's related but when you upgraded to the 9.0.2.437 the instructions tell you to backup the interactions and sample projects folder and delete them.

Check out the full release notes here:

Thanks for your reply - I installed Captivate 2 months ago so, I think 9.0.2.437 is the only version I have used.

Hmmm, I just had an experience with Scrolling Text that was working perfectly in SWF output, but the area was totally skewed in HTML output.  There is an important difference in functionality as well: for SWF output you can control the displayed content by changing the associated variable. This is impossible for HTML output.

How did you test? Which browser do you use?

Thanks for your reply.  When my project didn't work, I started a completely new project. On one slide, I placed a scrolling text box filling it by pasting text directly into it.

My projects are very simple for now so I haven't taken the time to read your articles about variables.

I published only the SWF output. The published SWF simply displayed a blank slide.

I published only the HTML5 output. The published HTML5 worked perfectly.

I know it is hard to believe but I received consistent results across Chrome, Firefox, IE and Edge.

Unfortunately, there is a conflict with the LMS I am using and I have to publish the SWF.

Thanks again for any suggestions.
