Question

Setting Captivate projects up for multiple attempts?

I've created a captivate learning package and want to allow students to have unlimited attempts at doing it. In the Quiz Preferences settings I have selected infinite attempts, and in the LMS settings (Blackboard) I've set it to unlimited attempts, but when it goes live to students it only allows a single attempt. Each time a student revisits the learning tool, they only get to review their answers for the first attempt. I've obviously missed something - any suggestions?

Thanks,

George

Putting the review button under the retake button makes sense. Thanks for the tip.

Did you check 'Show retake button?'

From what I have found, you cannot use both the review answers option AND retake the quiz. If I have retake enabled, I always disable the review portion. Once the user reviews the quiz, the retake button is no longer there. I'm not sure if there is a better way, but this is what I have found.

Many thanks for this reply. I seem to be getting mixed results - sometimes I can repeat the whole test and other times it simply returns to the review. At the moment I am looking to see whether the 'submit all' issue has anything to do with it. It would be very frustrating to be restricted to either review or retake but not both. My learning tool is entirely formative - I want to embed the core concepts and thus want them to be able to see the correct answers as well as being able to then retake the test until they get everything right.

Sorry to disagree with Kari... You can have both Review and Retake on a Quiz, but you have to be aware of the fact that if the user clicks on the Review button  before having exhausted the Quiz Attempts, he will not be able anymore to Retake the quiz. To avoid this, I recommend to drag the Review button under the Retake button. With that workaround, Review will only become available on the Score slide when the quiz has been a success (passed) or when the attempts on quiz level are exhauted (with Infinite attempts this will never happen). This tip and more can be found in my (most popular) blog post:Question Question Slides in Captivate - Captivate blog

You see that Quiz is not designed as you wish for this project. The only way to give the user a new attempt after reviewing is to uncheck 'Resume data', and to restart the course. Knowledge Check slides in Captivate 9 could be a solution, but you'll have to indicate the correct answer manually because KC slides are reset when leaving the slide. Another alternative is not to use the default question slides but to create custom question slides, which is a lot more work but gives you total control.

It has been a while since I used Blackboard, but with my previous answer in mind, are you sure that the students didn't use the Review button before closing the course? If that happened, and Resume data are sent, they will not be able to retake the quiz.
