Question

setting track for a captivate course

Does anyone know if you can set up "tracks" for a captivate course in the LMS.

I have a course with a lesson that is only applicable to certain group of learners and we dont want the rest of the company to view that information.

Our LMS does have the capability to set up tracks for courses created directly in the LMS system, but I originally created the course using captivate instead.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I did something like this recently with a course that was designed for Supervisors, Superintendents, and Managers.  In one module I had to have different content for each.  I used variables and Advanced Actions that allowed the user to nominate which role they belonged to and then only content slides applicable to that role would play for them.  The Advanced Actions OnSlideEnter of each slide would just skip to the next slide if the content on any given slide did not apply to their role.

so if i understand correctly, the learner will have to choose their "role" within a slide and that "action" will trigger the slides associated with that role. If that is the case, do i need to first create a slide with text boxes and click boxes that will trigger that action?

what happened when one of the learners clicked on another "role" was there anything that prevented them from reviewing the other role's information?

can you share an image of the process and/or steps?

In my case I just had a slide near the beginning that had three photos of typical persons from each role and asked them to click their own role.  The click box over the photo would execute an Advanced Action that set a variable to indicate their role choice.  If the user clicked one of the other roles there was no way to prevent this.  After all, you GIVE them the choice.

I intend to write a blog post about how this is set up.  Can't get to it right away though.
