Setting up a relative path in the "open file" dialog window

Hello there,

I want to open a PDF file through a clickbox out of Captivate. The path I have to put in there has to be absolute, I guess.
Is there any possibility to put a relative path in there?

To get you a clue, what I want to do with that, here is my intention:
I want to build up a splash screen for a Auto-Run-CD, where I want to link some reference documents.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions,

Markus

    Hi Rick,

    unfortunately this does not work.

And quite astonishing is, that the URL that is opened by our Captivate output depends on the type of output.

If we output as Flash, this URL is opened:
    file:///C:/DOCUME~1/user/LOCALS~1/Temp/~Ca20/test.pdf

If we output as standalone (EXE), this URL is opened:

What we want is a way to open our PDFs (which are in the same folder as our Captivate EXE-output) in Adobe Reader.
    Can you help?

    Hi Markus and Rick,
I am experiencing the same problem. I am publishing my session as an EXE. I have a button on a screen to "Open URL or File". I want to put in a relative path name of the PDF file. I entered just the file name. When I run the exe and click on the button, it opens a Browser window and looks for my file, but can't find it (even though the PDF file exists in that folder). If I publish my session as Flash, it found the file.

Any suggestions. Markus, did you ever get it to work?
    Thanks, Karen

    Welcome to our community, Karen!

If you are creating .EXE format, I've used a workaround in the past where I employed the companion MenuBuilder application to open files. See if the thread at this link right here helps any.

    Hi Markus

Normally all you have to do is just type the file name of the file. Then ensure the Captivate output and the file you are linking to are in the same folder. If you don't like that approach, I believe Captivate will accept another relative path that is set up perhaps like this:

    Root level of CD
    Documents folder

So the link would look as follows: Documents/SomeFile.PDF

    Cheers... Rick
