It does not show on the Slide but spell check catches it.What is this weird symbol and could this be the cause of upload problems to Connect Pro when a shift break is used.

    Hello,

You cannot use SHIFT-Enter in Captivate to force a soft break. The used text engine doesn't allow that. I have been reporting this early for CP5 but it has not changed yet, not for CP5.5 either.

You can have a hard break (Enter). And since there is not yet a way to have a different setting for line spacing and paragraph spacing, it will have the same result as a soft break (hope that is the correct word) with SHIFT-Enter

Another issue (more important) has been corrected both with a patch in CP5 and is OK in CP5.5 : when inserting variables in a Text Caption, a similar  weird symbol appeared when trying to insert a hard break.

Well I am glad I am the not the only one who noticed this. I really wish this would be fixed. Thank to all who responded.

Please, can you tell me what is the use of SHIFT-Enter instead of Enter, when there is no possibility to make a difference between paragraph and line spacing? Sorry to insist,

I have learned the hard way not to use Shift + Enter in Captivate 5. I was not able to publish any files in which I had used Shift + Enter. I am assuming that it is the same for 5.5.

    Good luck -- Eileen

Shift Enter is used in many word processing apps as a "soft line break", as opposed to just hitting Enter which would create a new paragraph.

The symbol in the screenshot looks a bit like a soft break symbol to me.  If this is the case then I can understand why someone might have placed it in the middle of a line of text in a caption in order to try and break the line at a given point.
