Question

Shockwave Player vs Flash Player

I was told by eHelp Support (when Captivate was RoboDemo) that the Flash Player could not be used to run movies that were launched from within the Help system ( when the .html and .swf files are compiled with the Help system). The support person told me that only the Shockwave Player could be used to launch movies within Help systems. To use the Flash Player, I would have to keep my .swfs and their .html files external to the Help system. The movies were then launched in unsizable external browser instances. My testing seemed to indicate that this was true. Is it still true? Does anybody know?

Hi stevewriter122 and welcome to our community

Hmmm, your mention of eHelp indicates a bit of time has elapsed. As a result, I'm going to crawl way out here on this shaky little limb and say that maybe that was the case at one point in time, but it probably changed. Or, maybe it was just voodoo all along. I'm simply not sure. Maybe Catbandit has some good stuff about all that, as he is another one that also combined RoboDemo with RoboHelp.

However, I'm another person that now combines RoboHelp with Captivate. (I never could warm up to RoboDemo, but Captivate rocked my world) Anyway, I'm happy to report that I've been combining Captivate movies with both .CHM and WebHelp output for a long time with no issues. And with my laptop being pretty new, I'm doubtful Shockwave player is even on the system. But I'll counter that with the open admittance that I'm not sure how I would even go about testing to see if it was present.

Hopefully others will happily chime in here and offer other insights on this.

    Cheers... Rick
