Question

Should I use a responsive format when creating Captivate Course if publishing to Adobe Prime?

I want to publish my course in Adobe Prime. Should I start by using the responsive format when creating my self-paced Captivate Course? Or does it matter? If I use the blank format, would it still be responsive since it uses the Fluidic Player?

The decision to use responsive design versus non-responsive design should be based on how your audience will be accessing your eLearning project. For example, if everyone will be accessing these projects on a desktop computer, and you don't anticipate that will change anytime soon then there is no reason to design for responsive design (it does take longer). If the, on the other hand, there is a solid business case for users to access eLearning on tablets, larger smartphone and so on, then it makes sense to prepare for that future.

The fluidic player only ensures that content will be accessible to many devices without a need for additional players or plugins. It doesn't convert content into responsive automatically.

Thank you Paul. That is very helpful. Something I read about the Fluidic player somewhere made it sound like it would make it "responsive".

You need responsive design if you want to have a different layout (simplified mostly) for devices that have a much smaller browser resolution which is the case for smartphones even though they have a much higher screen resolution, even higher than tablets or some desktop/laptop monitors. For access by tablets compared with desktop/laptop screens that is not so much a reason to turn to responsive projects (count at least on double the developing time), but maybe you'll have to take into account the much less impressive capabilities of tablets (and phones).

Fluidic player is not changing layout depending on browser resolution. You can do it with a scalable HTML project in Captivate
