Simulation Background Sizing in Captivate 2

I'm taking a software simulation at a size of 1000X662--as this is the best size for our systems in the company. What I'd like to do is have the screen captures at a somewhat smaller size so that I can place customized navigation buttons on the screen in a blank area--instead of on the screen capture itself. I tried resizing, but the resizing feature in Captivate 2 resizes the entire screen capture/background. I'm hoping to downsize the actual screen capture and leave extra room for buttons and comments so that I don't block any part of the screen capture itself. Is there a way to do this? Is there a template that might be useful.

Try the following (i'm not absolutely sure if it will help you):
1.
Click on Project in teh Toolbar, there on Resize (as you have already doen)
and now first bing th eproject to the smaller size you want. Then come back to this menu part an d do the following: in the part there "If new size is larger" click the radio button 2Keep Project teh same size andfill background with color". Then you can decide if you want to resize your caption (i would prefer no) and where it should be placed on the new larger background. That should work.
2.
If you just want to have more space for the navigation bar, the go to Project / Skin and there to the tab "Bordrs" where you can set a sort of frame around your project where the navigation bar will beplaced instead of overlaying some of you rproject. You can decide to have borders around the whole project but I am not sure if you can place buttons on this area.

K--thanks for the input....but neither achieves the results I need. I need to take the background image and shrink it to 90% of original size. This would mean the canvas would remain at 100%---so I'd have a border around the image to place buttons. Then I want to create my own navigational buttons and move them outside of the image---onto that extra canvas space. I can resize to 90%, but Captivate won't allow me place buttons outside of the background image (on the additional canvas space created). I guess that it may not be possible to do this.

What I'm encountering is that in some cases, I've got custom navigation buttons like "Show Me" or "Let me Try" that I want to place in the same area on every slide. The problem is that these buttons will sometimes cover screen elements that are important. I'm trying to determine if I move these custom navigation buttons to an area off of the image.....

Hi mstrozzo

In reading this thread, it would appear you only caught the first resize option Kuonoichi offered. Basically, you should be able to accomplish what you want, but it will take two different actions to resize your project.

1. Resizing smaller to 90% of original
2. Resizing again, but the second resize simply makes the project larger. The second resize uses different options. Instead of scaling the backgrounds to fit the new size, you keep them the same size. This adds additional area (you get to choose where the scaled down part remains)

After that second resize action, you would then have that blank space where you could place the buttons(s).

Cheers... Rick
