Slide advancement in Captivate 6

I'm very new to Captivate 6, and I cannot find the answer to this question anywhere: I want each slide to stop at its end and force the user to click the NEXT button to advancce. But each slide advances automatically. How do I prevent automatic slide advancement?

Thanks--Dale

Hi Dale, welcome to the forum,

How do you want the user experience: having a Next button on each slide, that will pause the slide? In that case Himanshu's solution is the right one, but be sure the pausing (vertical double line in the Timeline is the visual indication of that pause) is after every object has appeared. Timing can be set in the Timing accordion.

Second possibility: replace the default button by a Shape button. Under the Shapes panel (top icon in the left vertical toolbox) there is a Category Buttons: you'll find the Next button there as well. Advantage of those shape buttons is that you can insert them on Master slides or time for the rest of the project.

Another possibility: instruct the user to click on the slide to advance, without a button: in that case insert a click box on the first slide and resize it to cover the whole slide. Check its timeline, so that it extends till the end of the slide. You can do that by selecting its timeline and using CTRL-E or by using its  Time accordion. Typical for a click box besides it invisibility to the user is that it pauses right at the end of its timeline.

Each interactive object can have a pausing point: button, shape button, click box and Text Entry Box.

Hi,

I'm trying to incorporate a Drag & Drop exercise into my latest project, but cannot get the slide to pause.  I want the students to only click the Next button when they have dragged all the topics into the correct location, but the slide is advancing rather than pausing.  I know you can add a pause to the button, and can also add a pause to the Drag & Drop, but I am not sure which one to add?

I have made this work in my next slide, which features Click Boxes, but can't get it to work with Drag & Drop.  I am confused (which isn't difficult for me!!).

Can someone help me please?

Cheers!

Hi Dave,

By default, the slide should pause during the interaction. Are you triggering any Actions on drop of objects? If yes, that can make the project continue. You can use a Standard Action instead.

Let me know if that's not the case.

Hi ,

You can insert a Standard object such as Button on each slide which will add a pause to a slide. It will not continue untill the user click on it.

According to your need you can adjust the time of button and make it display at the end of slide by adjusting it in Timeline.

Thanks and Regards
