Slide Audio Won't Play on Preview From This Slide

Hello,

I have a video and audio in my Captivate project. The video was added using multi-slide synchronized video option to enable closed captioning but the video only occupies one slide (slide 3).

I also have audio on slide 5, 6 and so on.

When I preview the project or preview from slide 1, the video and audio on subsequent slides play correctly.

However, when I preview from slide 3 or from slide 5, the video and audio will not play.

I already clear my cache and rename the preferences folder. These don't help resolve the issue.

I am concerned that when the actual project is published and people go back to where they were left off, the audio won't play.

The audio mute button is not pressed, the audio is on.

Could you please help? What did I do wrong?

Thank you.

Regards,

Judith

I wonder if this is related to the recent changes in most browsers related to auto-playing media. It seems that browser makers are no longer allowing media to autoplay. Try unchecking auto play from your Preferences / Start and End. You will have to press the large play button on a pre-slide but it should work. I've noticed that a few of my older courses are experiencing this on the first opening slide.

HI Judith. Is this a non-responsive project?  If Yes, can you please use Preview, HTML in Browser (F11). Reason: all the other Preview methods do create a temporary SWF file, not HTML.  It is the HTML AuotPlay that is not only disabled in some browsers, on all mobile devices but also for HTML output in the most recent version of CP2017. If you are indeed on a non-responsive project, you wouldn't even have seen it with Preview, Project, nor with Prefiew from this slide etc.

Bit weird is what you describe: that everything works when you start from the beginning. Before tryiing to find out, can you first confirm the type of project: responsive of not. Please, tell also the exact version number you are using.

    Hi Lieve,

My project is a responsive project. The Adobe Captivate version is 2017 Release 10.0.0.192.

So the behavior is when I preview from slide 2, 3, 4, etc, the text, graphic animation, closed captioning will play, but the video and the audio will not play. The video and audio will only play if I preview from the beginning (from slide 1 or preview the project).

    It is very weird.

    Thank you.

    Judith

    Hi Paul,

    You are correct!

I am going crazy over this. When I un-check "Auto Play" in Preferences > Start and End, and try to preview from this slide > slide 3, which has the video, the video and audio in subsequent slides will play. It also works when I preview from this slide > slide 5, which has the audio. I do have to click the large play button in the beginning.

Otherwise (with Auto Play checked), preview from this slide from anywhere in the middle of the project, the video and audio in subsequent slides will not play. I always have to start from the beginning to have the video and audio in subsequent slides play correctly.

I do have a question though. So with this change in the browser, I do have to leave the Auto Play unchecked then? I plan to load this project to the LMS. Unfortunately, I don't have an account in the LMS to test this behavior in the LMS sandbox myself.

Thank you very much for your help!

    Regards,

    Judith
