Slide Notes Randomly Duplicating to Other Slides

So I may have discovered what may be going on, but I am curious if anyone has run into this and if so, have you a fix? Totally new to Captivate. Excited to start, but discovering bug after bug. This particular one may be my own error, but still seems out of place.

As the title notes, I find previous slide notes in random slides. For example, I am on slide 28 and create slide note content. I later review the slides and notice slide 5 has a copy of the notes from slide 28. They appear to have been added to the slide notes list so where slide 5 may have only had 3 notes, it now has 7 (the 3 original notes + the 4 from slide 28).

This is very confusing and frustrating as the project is only going to get more complicated as we develop it having to constantly check for possible duplicate notes at every major progression point.

MY GUESS:

I have copied slides that have complex animations to avoid rebuilding the sequence (for example, section title slides). When doing so, I make sure to rename each new slide something unique. I assume though that slides must have some hidden meta ID, at least one that is related to that slide's note list. How else would notes from a later slide end up in an earlier, complete slide?

This is like herding cats!! Can anyone confirm what is actually happening here? Am I not supposed to copy/paste resources to avoid such problems? I do NOT want to have to rebuild each of these slides manually... again.

Any advice is most appreciated!!

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to chime in.

- Noel.

Did this issue ever get resolved? I'm having a similar issue.

It was not resolved at the time of the original post using Captivate 9.xxx. I've not had a major Capivate project since that post so I do not know if the newer version is still acting this way.

Just to keep the ball rolling, what version are you running right now? If you are using Captivate 2019, then that is a little scary to think that problem still exists after these years!!

I have a similar issue.  Only my slides notes will be fine one day but when I go back in, slide 9's notes are now on page 10, slide 10's notes are now on page 11, etc.  Not all slides shift, just some.

When you copy/paste a slide you are copying everything, including the slide notes. Names of the slides are about the only names that do not really matter that much. The objects on the slides will get generic names, which are pretty intelligent (keeping partially the original names) because they need a unique ID. Due to the automatic slide number which is the real ID of a slide, this is not necessary for the slides.

I try to avoid copy/paste (when necessary I use Duplicate). Why didn't you use the master slides if you need slides with similar setup? Of use shared actions instead of advanced actions. Maybe use objects timed for the rest of the project in some circumstances.

Of course if you have a lot of staggering objects on a slide, that cannot be done in a master slide.

A tip: keep adding slide notes as one of the last steps in developing. At least if those slide notes are meant for TTS or CC. If you just want real notes, put them in a text container in the scratch area (outside of the stage). They will be duplicated as well when you duplicate a slide but will be a lot more visible immediately.

Well, I copied the slides before there were notes. Slide content only. Nothing of the notes were "copied" as they did not yet exist. It's very unusual to see new content (slide notes) appear on a much older slide. Testing now, I made an edit to a slide note on slide 52. After the edit, I scrolled back to slide 37 which was a copy/paste from the same source slide, and the same edit now appears on slide 37. Oddly, there are two other slides that were copied from the same source that do not appear to be affected by this edit.

It's so weird!!!

Sequences are a bit too unique to be used as a Master, though I am using Masters for the fundamental design.

Yes, slides notes are for TTS and CC.

I will try duplicate to see if that makes a difference. It's not all the copies, just some of them. I thought the slide ID under properties would be enough to create a unique instance. So much for assumptions. =(

Thanks for the reply.

What Captivate version are you on? (please show major and minor version numbers)
