"Something went wrong" error in simulation slide when adding Instructions (Captivate 2023)

Used 2023 to create a Simulation (demo only). Not sure if this is a Captivate issue or a me issue.

On one of the slides, I would like to add some additional instructions in different spots on the screen (ie. "Before you click over there, verify that this is correct over here").

Under "Components", I added 2 more Instructions, altered the text, placed them where I want them, adjusted when they display in the timeline, etc.

However, when I Preview this slide, I get a "Something went wrong" error.

If I preview just that slide, the error appears immediately.

If I preview from the beginning, the whole thing plays correctly, including that slide, and I get the error when it tries to move to the next slide.

In either situation, if I hit the next button on the playbar, the rest plays just fine.

If I remove the 2 additional instructions, the problem goes away.

Is this a bug? or am I using the Instructions incorrectly or not configuring them etc.

I'd appreciate any help.

I had this exact issue and found that it was caused by characters Captivate didn't like. Initially I copied text in from Word but it contains formatting that Captivate didn't like. Then I copied text in from Notepad but Captivate still didn't like quotation marks. Once I removed those, the errors went away.

    Welcome here!

This thread is about software simulations in the new version 12. In that version you cannot add anything to sim slides. Do you mean that you tried to replace the automatically generated messages in the simulation?

You never should copy formatted text from Word nor from any text application which is using styles. Reason is that Captivate is managing the text styles (in version 12) and all object styles, including text (in all other versions).

Hi, I'm facing a similar issue. When I preview the software simulation built on Captivate 2023 (12.1...), some slides gets paused with an error 'Something went wrong'. I did not add any additional elements. Could anyone please help on this issue?

    You cannot add additional elements.

For this reason, and all the bugs reported with the software sims I recommend to use a CP2019 version for software simulations, not the new version.
