Hi

Captivate 9  crashes when starting each time. Despite the most recent operating system.

What a frustration and what could you do about it?

Best, Walther

Correct answer Lilybiri
  • yes "9.0.1.320"
  • fresh install (trial)

I know some fonts can corrupt Captivate and prevent from launching.

Since you cannot start it, I propose to find the CleanPreferences file for Mac in the Utils subfolder of Captivate. Run that file. Here is a screenshot from its location (but on a Win system):

I'm not sure it will help, but worth trying.

Back from my captivate9-bug-Odyssee

Adobe Helpdesk was unable to solve the problem right now. Launching  a software, which isn't working properly on Mac-Computers, which have the latest OS, is a little bit embarrassing, for a large company like Adobe!

It's certainly annoying for MAC users but I tend to disagree that it's all that much of an embarrassment for Adobe.

Your MAC OS version was only released about 29 days ago.  Captivate 9 came out August last year.  It's not realistic to believe that every software app in the Adobe arsenal MUST be capable of working with a new release of the MAC OS as soon as that OS version is released.  There could be all manner of changes required to the underlying programming code and that can require months of testing.

Adobe will certainly get around to addressing any compatibility issues eventually, but in the meantime if using Captivate is essential to your business you might need to roll back your OS version in order to keep working.  You could be in for a longish wait.

Having worked with Adobe Captivate for a number of years I've seen many issues of this type where a new Windows or MAC OS version will not play nicely with the current Captivate version.

Experienced Captivate users learn NOT to be the first to jump in and update their OS as soon as it is released.  It's more prudent to wait and watch the forums for a few months to see what sort of issues other more adventurous souls encounter.

Do you launch CP as administrator? Is CP installed on your system, not on a

networked drive?

Is it 9.0.1.320? Was this a fresh install or did you have a former version of CP on that system?
