Start video on successful answer

I am a graphic designer new to Captivate 9 (mainly use Creative Suite software) and my company is interested in making a fun quiz for customers to learn more about certain services we offer.

One of the major points is that we would like one of our existing video tutorial shorts to reveal upon a successful answer.

For instance, on a True/False, the user get the correct answer, the "success" text pops up with "You're Correct" etc...and then the video appears and starts to play.

We want all of this on the same screen within the project (no pop-ups, no new browser windows).


Are there any references/tutorials on how to set this up?

Ah ok...that does make more sense now that I realize what is happening!

I copied the slide and added the video in the blank space and then set the "On Success" to jump to that slide.  That works, however is there a way to bypass the second "confirmation" click? 

(i.e. I select my answer, click "submit", then the text shows up but it still wants me to click a second time to jump to the next slide)

I offered you already the link to that blog post, did you read it? The scenario to skip one of the two steps in the Submit process is explained in that blog post.

You'd better us two slides in that case, unless you are up to creating a custom question slide using variables and advanced actions. Maybe too difficult for a newbie?

Two slides using default feature would be:

  1. A T/F question slide with the default template
  2. Tweak it a little bit: change the actions On Success and After Last Attempt to 'Go to Next Slide' instead of 'Continue'
  3. If you don't like the two-step Submit process, you can tweak with the scenario I explained in: Question Question Slides in Captivate - Captivate blog
  4. On the second slide you have the video.

Hey Lily...yeah my initial thought was using to slides to essentially jump to & from, but my boss didn't like the idea of having the user move away from the quiz to a different slide.

Basically, the slide would be laid out with Header > Question > Answers > blank space for video to come in > then buttons near the footer, etc

So...perhaps custom is the way to go if there is a clear tutorial on how to achieve this

I think the real question we are asking here is: Can Captivate do what we want it to do?  If it can, and it takes some tweaking, then that's fine

The user will not see that it is a different slide, that is a common misunderstanding! You can have an empty space on the quiz slide in exactly the location of the video on the next slide.

I'm sorry, I wrote a lot of tutorials but for this use case it can easily be done with two slides. Captivate is not Powerpoint where you always see the different slides. Slides in Captivate are used because they are easier to edit, but the result will look like a movie, you can even have a mimicked copy of the quiz slide on the video slide. Or you can time objects for the rest of the project and hide them later on. Too many CP-users make too long slides, where it is not necessary at all.
