Streaming video in Red5 - anyone done this before?

Hi all,

Just a quick question.  I have setup a red5 streaming server and am having some difficulties getting the video inside captivate 5 to stream peoperly.  I have been through as many help tutorials as I can find, but am still getting very mixed results.  I have specified streaming in the video management option within captivate and given the url - I have tried several different url's, both with and without the .flv extension.  Sometimes, the video will stream, but only very rarely.  When the video does stream, it still writes the "connection error" string over the video, even though the video plays!

Has anyone else used the red5 server to stream video within captivate?

Thanks for any adive/tips!

Tristan

Hi again,

As a quick update to anyone else trying to get this to work.

I finally had some success, but not really an ideal solution.  The video streamed perfectly well using flash CS4.  So as a work around, we ended up using a flash .swf which contained the connection string to our red5 server and video.  We then inserted this .swf into each captivate slide in which the video was to be played.  Result = streaming videos inside our captivate project using red5!

Not ideal, but at least we have a solution for the time being.

Thanks,

Tristan

Please check whether this helps (but not to do anything in particular with red5):

Hi,

thanks for the feedback - I have already had a good look through this resource, and have ensured everything is correct.  Still no joy.  Very frustrating as I have no problems streaming the video in other web based environemnts.  Will keep trying!

thanks again,

Hi Tristan,

Do you have any public red5 link, which I could try and see from my side ?

Thanks,

Sony

Hi again,

Wow, frustrating.  As a further update, I have uploaded another test file through captivate:

rtmp://208.116.16.232/oflaDemo/9

Initially, I got the dreaded connection error, but i kept refreshing the page, and eventually the video played, but after a few seconds the connection error tag came up over the video, even though the video continued to play perfectly.  At the end of the video, i refreshed the page, only to see the connection error and no video, I refreshed the page around 10 more times, and again, the video played, but with the connection errror tag over the video - this processed continued - after about 10 - 15 page refreshes the video will play! (but with a connection error tag over it!)

So, it seems the link is ok, but somewhere it is not connecting properly, and when it does, it think it has not!

Thanks,

Tristan
