The purpose I want to use Captivate for is as follows, A student sits down in front of the computer, they enter their name etc, a video plays and then they have to answer questions. Atthe end I would like to be able to print a form that has their name that they entered earlier plus the results from the questions. I know how to insert the video and questions and get results but I do not know if Captivate can allow students to enter their Name etcc.
Can anyone give me advise?

LOL! Funny the assumptions we make. I honestly never gave a thought to possibility that the "show scoring" might not being "ticked". When will I learn?

    As always, thanks Paul!!

I ended up completing the assessment I was working with Captivate 2 and surely enough there in fact lies the results page as you guys said it will be.

Thank you very much Sam, Rick and Paul for your assistance and the awesome solution.

    Happy New Year!

You must be running Captivate version 1. In version 2 the "Results" show up on a separate slide, but not in version 1, as I remember.

Try putting those SWF files on a blank slide following the last "scored" interaction. I am not sure that will work but it's worth a try. If not, get the upgrade (at least a "trial" copy) to version 2.0 - that should work, because I've run a test on that and it works for me.

I'll step in and help since I did grab the originals from "Dexterous" download site earlier. Go to:
    http://www.captivate-tips.com/downloads/

The Input and Output SWF and FLA files provided by Dexterous are there, and you can get the Print.SWF from Paul Dewhurst's site (link was provided by me earlier) or create it yourself if you have access to and knowledge of Flash. Good luck ...

    Hi Peter,

Just to add to Larry's answer
If you are using Captivate 2, click the Project menu ( top of screen) then select Quiz Manager then Quiz Settings tab
and place a tick in the "Show score at end of quiz"

Anyone what? A question was asked, and an answer given. The original poster passed "Thanks" along ... end of thread.

It seems you didn't "get it", so if you can share what you are missing, maybe someone can help... or sometimes it helps me to just reread the thread carefully, from beginning to end(?)

Yes, I think you have to register. There used to be a PayPal link but whether that is still there, or is voluntary or mandatory is a question I can't answer. If payment is requested, it's worth it even for a Flash person due to time saved.

    Hi Mark,

There is no readymade solution available inside CA2 for you. Though there is a work-around which I Use, you can try this. For this you will have to download the file kept at This link
It is ZIP file containing two very simple flash files, All you have to do is following:

    1. On the first slide, where you want to take the student name as input choose Insert->Animation and insert the textInput.swf. Note that you must put a button on this slide so the playback stops for taking the sudent name as input. You can have 'continue' as the action for the button

    2. On whichever slide, say the result slide, you want to show the student's name just insert the textOutput.swf as an animation on that slide.

I have also included the flash source files you can modify them if you are comfortable with flash.

    I hope this helps!

Hey Dexterous, good little tool(s) - thanks! But while that will capture the variable and place the captured variable on the output slide, it won't print it.

Not to worry, as MarkKC can then use one of Paul Dewhurst's "print.swf" widgets to print the slide containing the re-displayed variable (the name). Paul's work can be viewed at this link

Hope this gets your motor reving!
