Styles with multiple new states?

Want to be sure I'm not missing something, but is it accurate to say that when you add a new state it's tied to the object and not the style?

I'm converting some old trainings to Captivate 9 and I want to use states on smart shapes,for purposes of reducing timeline clutter, instead of the multiple smart shapes being displayed using show/hide actions. I don't see an easy way of adding new states to one object and then being able to apply those states to any other objects on the slide.

    Not totally true, and it is indeed confusing.

    Style of a shape in the Object Style Manager had already three inbuilt states in Captivate 8, it still has in Captivate 9, the way they are created is different and also the way they are displayed in the Object Style Manager.     Those three InBuilt states have limitations: you cannot change the shape itself, its size and position, but you can change Fill, Stroke (like in CP8) AND Label (new in CP9). I show an example in that same blog post, in the included movie. You can add more states, I call them custom states, which can replace the normal state and in which you can add non-interactive objects. The rollover and down states will not be replaced however. Examples in the same blog post. Those custom states are not part of the style, contrary to the InBuilt state. It is a bit similar, but not totally (first have to figure out all details before blogging) with D&D objects, which also have InBuilt States.

    Wondering if this clarifies or makes it more confusing? Personally I would have loved to see a better separation between InBuilt states and custom states, Help is not very relevant about that difference. What I told here and in my blog post is the result of exploring only. BTW: there is a bug (even after the hotfix) with shape buttons on master slides which will not have the rollover nor down state (was working perfectly in CP8).

    The new method of states I understand, but it's more of the limitation that I'm seeing of styles not retaining states which are added for smart shapes.

    I created two circles, and in one of the circles I created some states, and then created a new Style Name of "Colors."

    I selected the second circle, selected the Colors style, but the states I added to the first circle don't follow the style.

    I guess what I'm really after are object styles that have have smart shape specific states that are retained in the style. For now I'll just have to setup all the states I need in a smart shape, duplicate the smart shape, and then them as needed.

    Yes, only the inbuilt states are retained in a style.
