System audio (mic in) automatically set far too low - Captivate 9/Win 10

Okay, I'm trying to record video demos with Captivate 9 (9.0.1.320) and for some reason it's setting my system audio (record; mic in) to 13, though I always have it set to 100. Very annoying, as the audio levels are so quiet on playback I can't even hear it with my headphones turned up to 100. I am not using the auto calibrate.

What am I missing here?

Thank you

Edit: I should also add that I have tried Auto-Calibrate as well, but audio is always set to 13. I even turned off the "exclusive modes" in the system microphone settings.

Figured it out. The pre-amp volume is set to .125 (~13%) by default. Changed that to 1.0 and all is good.

Not sure why auto-calibrate didn't work though.

Hi Benjamin - I wonder what you did to solve this. Where did you adjust the pre-amp value?

I think I am having a similar issue. I have a new USB mic and am working with Windows 10 and Adobe Captivate 9. The new mic shows up in my microsoft audio devices. Under 'Levels' it is set by default to a low 40. I can increase this manually, for example to 80. Then I open Captivate and attempt to calibrate and/or record using it and I can literally see the level drain away. I open up the windows properties for this device again and the level has returned to 40. When recording in Captivate it is too quiet and sound is not picked up.

I have the same thing in Audio Audacity except here once I've opened Audacity I can adjust the levels in the Windows setting and they stick - for that use only. I have to reset it every time but at least I can record.

However, I really want to record directly in Captivate.

Does this sound similar to what you experienced? I can't find any pre-amp volume setting.

Hi Benjamin - I found it! I thought the pre-amplified level was a setting in Windows but it is the Captivate setting. If I manually adjust this it works. Thanks for this post as it is what got me there.
