T in the Text Box

In addition to Rick's answer, if you are talking about Text Entry Boxes, did you perhaps put in a Default text = 'T'? You can check this in the Properties of the TEB. I know that it sounds stupid, but often the most stupid things cause problems.

Can you please use the Camera icon and post a screen capture of what you are seeing?

I inserted a Text Entry Box as well as a Text Caption and I'm not seeing what you are.

As an aside, a lot of what you see during edit time isn't actually visible to the end user. Much of it is there to assist you, the Captivate author.
