Question

Text Animation in Chinese?

Hello-  I'm creating a software simulation which is mostly in English but I'd like to add one text animation in Simplified Chinese.  I switched keyboards on my OS and typed in the Chinese characters but when I run the animation, they turn up as empty boxes.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Nora

Captivate 5 and above are supposed to support unicode double-byte characters such as Simplified or Traditional Chinese.

Are you on Cp5 or an earlier version?

Have you tried generating the Chinese characters in another program and then just pasting them in?  The issue may be something to do with the way your keyboard is generating the characters.

I am using Cp5.  I tried copying and pasting the text in from Word, online, and notepad.  I also tried switching the text font in the text editing box to the standard SimSun type.  I tried various animations with the same result- all have plain boxes instead of characters.

I can see my text in the text editing box and on the slide.  Occasionally I can also see it in the preview window, but when I go to play the slide, it never appears correctly.  What can I do?

Thank you,

Nora

Are you able to get Simplified Chinese characters to appear correctly in normal text captions?

If so, the limitation may be that Text Animations do not support double byte characters. Your alternative would be to create the text animations in a program such as Flash and then import them into Captivate.
