Text box help: triggering sound off a single word in a text box to help students learn a foreign language. Does anyone know if that is possible in Captivate? Does anyone know how to trigger off a single word in a textbox for audio or a tooltip (for translation of a difficult word)? Thanks.  Ted.hildebrandt@gordon.edu

Lot depends on the verion you are using: 12 or older?Especially hyperlinks pn words lost the functionality to trigger an action like playing audio.

I've got Captivate 2019 and am thinking about using that because I can use shapes and then trigger the audio off those.  I've been looking at Captivate 12 (2023) and don't see how to add shapes and trigger things off them at all in the new version.  Seems like it's two steps backward just to get things a little more responsive... Am I wrong and thinking like that?

I think many on this forum would agree with your assessment.

If you were hoping for some kind of sophisticated solution for this, or something that could be easily automated, I'm afraid Captivate simply does not have this functionality.

You can certainly have text objects such as Smart Shapes or images display words (as text) and then make these objects clickable to trigger playback of a sound file.  This is usually referred to as Object Audio.

However, this would require that you added a separate object for each word in the sentence you were displaying.

Alternatively, you could hyperlink specific words in a text string (also displayed in a Smart Shape) and trigger an Advanced Action that plays a sound when the hyperlink is clicked.

These are all things well within Captivate's capabilities. But my gut feeling is that you were hoping for something more than this.  Am I correct?
