Text Effects on Master Style Placeholder

Is it possible to add text effects to text placeholders on a master slide? I can add effects to regular text captions on the master slide, but not to text placeholders. The Effects option disappears when the text placeholder is clicked.

It'd be nice if you could do this. I am setting up a brand new theme and was hoping we could use a global text effect on our page titles in the place holders in the master slides.
