Question
text entry box and buttons
hi y'all,
please forgive me if this question has been posed before, i couldn't find anything specifically answering it here.
my problems are text boxes and their input completion.
Please also forgive me for this longish post. I have tried all I could, but didn't get any satisfying result yet, plus the deadline is coming close. This stuff has set me back quite a while. didn't expect it to be so complicated for it's quite easy to do this in flash or director.....
The first issue is the focus of the text entry box when i have a text entry box on the screen and the user clicks somewhere outside the text box.
I tried with setting up a clickfield the same size of the text entry box. Whenever one clicks outside of the clickfield, this is considered being a wrong entry and a failure caption is displayed, telling the user to click in the text field and enter the required data. This only works once though, any subsequent clicks outside the entry box aren't trapped.
Another problem i have is the trigger key. When i set the text input trigger to TAB, i get problems when using the swf without the automatically generated skin swf because of the 508 compliance (even when i have turned it off in the publish settings). Plus i need to trap the TAB or ENTER keys whenever the user has clicked outside the text entry box and is trying to do anything erratically, because the text entry don't work 'cause the box has no focus.
The other thing that gives me a headache is the text entry box /button combination.
What i need is this: The user has to input text into a field. The evalaution has to be triggered by clicking on an inivisible button located on top of the recorded "search" button image. TAB and ENTER keys should not work as triggers (or better : not at all). Whenever the user clicks outside the box OR the search button area, i want a caption. If the user ignores the caption, any keystroke or klick NOT inside the text box sgholud again bring that caption on. OR I want the focus automatically redirected to the text entry box, so the user is not able to be outside the box, typing and wondering, why nothing happens.
anybody got any ideas?
I'd highly appreciate any input, if anyone needs more info, i'd gladly supply that too. It's hard for me to immagine that something so trivial ha sto be so complicated to realize.
