Text Entry Box Question

I may be misunderstanding your question. You said " I am demo ing a software app that shows a search field.Next to the srearch field is a search button so the user can either enter the text and hit enter or enter the text and click the search button."

I'm unclear on why you wouldn't want to configure "Enter" as your shortcut key in this case? Also, note that when you insert a Text Entry Box, one of the options available to you is "Show Button". So you can easily configure this button to be transparent and position it over the image of the button that you see.
