Question

Text showing in preview but not on slide

I'm new to Captivate and I'm editing a previously created course.  This text box that is showing during preview says "Submit".  I do not see it on the slide in edit mode in order to delete it.  It displays for about 2 seconds, then disappears during preview.  I have tried Ctrl+A to select all, but that does not work. How can I remove this?

Version is 11.5. 2019 Release. I believe this is a Text Caption.  I was trying to add a text box.  I thought I deleted it, but I can not find how to get rid of it now. I've looked on the Master slide to see if it is there, but it is not.

11.5.0 or 11.5.5? Big difference because the first one had many bugs. Please give the full version number.

If it is a Text Caption, which would be weird, you should see it somewhere on the Timeline. Text Captions are barely used anymore. Which Theme? It looks like a title slide, is this the first slide?

    Version 11.5.5.553

Yes, it's the title slide, Aspire Theme.  On the original course, there was text below the subheading (a link).  I am updating the course and was trying to replace the hyperlink.  I selected Text Caption by mistake, instead of Text Entry Box.  Two boxes appeared and thought I deleted both, but now I can see this one still appears when I preview.

Welcome to the forum. Can you please mention which exact version you are using? The full version number can be found under Help, About Captivate (Win) or Captivate, About Captivate (Mac).

Normally the 'Submit' button is always an embedded object on a quiz or a D&D slide.  However since this button only shows up for a short duration it seems to be something different.

Can you see which master slide has been used for this slide in the Properties panel? That master slide is part of the used Theme which is also visible in the Properties. At least if you are NOT using version 12.

Something which displays unexpectedly on a slide can also be an object on a previous slide, which has been timed to display for more than 1 slide.

Also, it appears immediately, then disappers.  It is not on the timeline.  From what I understand, there aren't layers in Captivate...that was my first thought.

You didn't mention that you use a Ready-to-go slide from the Quick Start Project 'Aspire'. Most of those QSPs have some weird setup sometimes and you have to understand Captivate very well to see those problems. I have created multiple blog posts about them to explain.

I don't know who told you that Captivate has no layers? Not exactly in the same sense as in Illustrator or Photoshop but there are layers, especially in non-responsive projects: you have the background layer, the layer with the objects of the main master slide and the master slide used for this slide, the objects on top of them each have an individual timeline, etc. You can have objects timed for more than one slide, how would you label them? They are  not visible on the timeline except on the first slide where they really are. You can have hidden layers which can be made visible.

I had a look at the two Title slides in Aspire. Please take out the Pause action which they both have on the On Enter Slide event? That is one of the weird setups... If you ever add audio narration to this project, you need to take all of those actions out or you'll never hear any audio. Have a look at this blog post:
