Text to speech with variable values

Can I get text to speech to speak the value of a variable, such as Hello $$user_name$$ or to speak a number contained in a variable?

I tried the username option above and it did not work, but I wondered if anyone had found a way to make it work.  Thanks.

Hi there

Personally, I'm very doubtful you can make this work. Here's why I feel that way. Variables are called variables because the information changes. But you knew this already, no?

The audio portion is determined beforehand. Not dynamically (on the fly). Because the audio isn't dynamically produced at the time the Captivate is being viewed as the variable is, there is no way to render the audio on the fly.

One brief thought I had was that perhaps a Screen Reading application (Section 508) might be used, but even that text has to be pre-determined and configured before publishing the Captivate output.

Personally, I'm going to crawl way out here on this shaky little limb and say it's not possible.

Cheers... Rick
