The Case of the Mysterious Shifting Text Boxes

Hello, everybody! Here's a strange situation:

When I insert text boxes or click boxes, they appear in position. When I preview or publish the file, though, they are shifted down a fixed amount (not sure what that is, but it is the same for all controls).

Have any of you heard of this or had it happen to you? Better yet, have you figured it out?

I'd appreciate any help you can offer! Thanks!

I suspect the problem is caused by the resizing of your movie but even as I say that, it makes little sense to me Matter of fact, I'm sitting here have an argument with myself about it right now.

I would turn the grid "ON", in any case, as that should nail down the positioning of the objects on your slides. Might be considerable work, but it's the one thing that makes sense as a solution.

Unfortunately, this is something that I am very familiar with. I wish
that I could offer you some good news but alas, "No!" This is in fact a
verified bug and means that you really have no option but to manually
reposition the Text Entry Box using the cursor keys.

    Regards,
    Mark

I'll leave one more thought on this issue, on a "for what it's worth" basis. You might try placing "hard breaks" into the text for the text-caption boxes.

When allowing Captivate to determine the soft-line-breaks, if any line of text is a tad too long for the size (length) of the caption box (especially when "auto-sizing" is ticked), Captivate will shift the text inside the box to attempt a "fit". I"m not sure how this fits in the discussion, but might be worthy of note.

In any case, this unwanted shifting can be avoided by "forcing" line breaks (SHIFT+ENTER) into the text, to line up the text inside the text-caption image.

I've often noticed this as well. The most common noticable occurrences for me are:

    1. When the caption length just barely fits all the text, I'll publish or preview it, and find that it's shorter and the last word has been chopped off. I just end up having to go back and make it longer.

    2. In quizzes, I sometimes insert slides between the questions. I create a caption that matches the heading of the question, but mysteriously, when I publish, the question heading is exactly and consistently five pixels higher than the matching caption on the next slide (even though they were set in the same position before publishing). If I lower it five pixels, they will match.

    Let's see:

    1. I'm running the 1.01.1418 Build 1418 version.

    2. I resized the CBT BEFORE inserting the new controls.

    3. I don't have the grid turned on, but turning it off or on didn't seem to help the problem.

    4. I'm not using custom text captions.

    5. The Autosize Captions option is turned off.

Do any of those answers help? I hope so!

    Hi Will,
Welcome to the Captivate User Community! I've heard of it but not lately.

    1) Are you certain you have the latest release?

    2) Are you resizing the projects before publishing?

    3) Do you have the "grid" turned on ("Options > Preferences > Show Grid (and/or "Snap to Grid")?

    4) Are you using your own "custom" text-captions?

    5) Is "Autosize Captions" turned "ON" (Options > Autosize Captions).
    . . . . (shoulda asked that one first ...) . . .

The solution might be in your answer to one or more of those questions ... or not.
