Timeline shows all elements

I am working with Captivate 2017 edition.  While building my slide, If I move to a location on the timeline where there are no elements at that time, I continue to see the elements on the screen from all times combined.  This makes it very difficult to build up a story because I see everything on my screen at the same time (even when they are really not around at that point in time).  Is there a way to only see what elements are on the screen at that point in time so I am not distracted with everything?

When I scrub the timeline bar to move ahead or back in time I don't see anything where there are no elements but as soon as I release the scrubber, all elements appear from all times in the slide.  Is this a bug or is this the way it works?

Please advise if there is a setting or something to only see timeline items present at that time.  I know I can hide items by clicking the eye but that becomes difficult to keep clipping things on and off.  Especially when there are a lot of items

Thank you,

Todd

I think you could learn something from my interactive presentation about Captivate's Timeline:

It is embedded in this blog post:

Captivate is slide-based, and the problem you have is probably due to the fact that you are trying to create too crowded and too long slides. All elements on the slide are always present from the start, which has some advantages for algning, management etc (no need for onion skins). To synchronize elements with VO you can use the Play Slide button in the timeline. spacebar can be used to pause and play the slide. At that moment only the elements visible in the played frames will be visible. To help with synchronization there are several shortcut keys. One example: when you pause the playhead during the Play Slide, you can move the start of an object line to the playhead position with the shortcut key CTRL-L. More info in:
