Has anyone tried using Google Analytics to track hits to Captivate-generated lessons?

Thanks.

Are you asking cause you really want to use Google Analytics?

Or because you don't have an LMS and want to track CP use?

If Analytics, I defer to Michael's replies.

If need an alternative to an LMS, note that CP5 now allows tracking to a custom webserver script. They provide a PHP version with the program... No LMS needed. (It can also track to acrobat.com as an option).

Without hijacking the thread...

Will the CP5 PHP program provided also allow the trackiing of assessment scores to the webserver?

(I am asking because we do not have an LMS)

Thanks

The option to track via acrobat.com is not very user-friendly. It requires the user have an adobe.com account. Just too much hassle for the user to go through. The IT department at my company tried setting up an internal server (.NET) to track user data. I never heard back from them regarding the internal server option. They didn't get it to work, I assume.

The problem with tracking it with google analytics was I had to insert the code into each of the Captivate lessons we needed to track, and we got many lessons to track. I was just wondering if there's an easier way to do it. Anyway. Many thanks for the responses.

It's a pain to setup but it is possible. However I recommend that you track your lesson hits with a free service called Mochibot instead.

You can read more about it here.

Thanks for your reply. With this tool, do you need to manually copy the same code over and over again into each Captivate-generated lesson? That's the trouble we had when using Google Analytics. We ended up writing a program to batch-insert the codes into each htm file. Doing it by hand would be too tedious.

Well yes I guess so. You would need to insert the code into each Captivate project file (or at least the ones you wish to track).

It also requires Adobe Flash since the code generated is Actionscript so you need to paste that into Flash - publish it as an SWF and then import this into Captivate as an animation SWF.

If your are going the Google Analytics way you could modify the standard HTML template that Captivate uses to included the code from the beginning. I don't know if you use different UA for each course, but if you don't then it's just simple edit once and for all.
