Question

Tracking Hotspots and recording number of mouse clicks

I am new to Captivate and have a project where I have set up a series of hotspots over a letter that contains spelling and grammar errors and would like to:

  • Track exactly which hotspots were clicked and pass each ones identity to a screen that appears after the quiz review screen
  • Track how many mouse clicks users made that were not on the hotspots I set up

I can probably do this in Flash but wondered if I could use some coding related to the User defined varialbles in Captivate?

Can anyone help please?

Cheers David

Hello David,

I'd certainly answer positively to your first question: you can define a user variable (Boolean: only 0 or 1) for each hotspot, start with 0 for each variable and then set it to 1 when the linked hotspot is clicked. Based on the value of the variable you can show the appropriate Text Caption in the result slide after the Quiz Review screen.

Second question is somehow more difficult: perhaps make sure that all the screen is divided in hotspots, good ones and bad ones. For the bad ones you'd need to give multiple attempts, create also a variable 'v_counter', which will be incremented when a bad spot is clicked?

Did not try it out, bit in a hurry, just wanted to give you a 'direction'.
