Trouble with the audio recording

I am using Captivate 7 and when I try to record narration to my slides, the box is not appearing that shows the narration as you record it.  I am not able to do anything else until I hit the Esc key on my keyboard.  I have recorded successfully as recently as a month ago, but for some reason I can no longer do so.  What might be causing this problem?

    Did you ever use two monitors? It may be on the monitor you are not using anymore.

    Try clearing the Preferences. If you have adminiistrator rights, look in the subfolder 'utils' under the installation folder for the file 'CleanPreferences....' that is fitting for your OS. Run that file while Captivate is closed.
