Troubleshooting Captivate Review 8

I have recently updated to Captivate 8 and am now interested in using the Captivate Reviewer functionality. The documentation available for this function doesn't seem to match the actual features available in the application. I am not able to get this function to work. I am getting errors when trying to create the shared files.

I have not been able to find any help in the Adobe site's resources.

Hi there

The review process is fraught with many hurdles.

Here's how you need to do it.

You click File > Send for Shared Review.

Either accept or change the name and click Next.

Configure the Publish folder as well as the Comments folder and click Publish.

This should create a folder in the location you specified above with the CREV file in the location specified above.

Now you make that CREV file available to your reviewers.

Once you create the CREV file, you DO NOT want to edit the project until the review cycle is complete.

First hurdle. Do your reviewers have Adobe AIR installed?

If not, you have to have your IT staff install Adobe AIR on their computers.

Got that hurdle crossed? Cool beans.

Second hurdle. Do your reviewers have the Adobe Captivate Reviewer AIR application installed?

If not, you have to have your IT staff install the Captivate Reviewer AIR application. (you can't install that until AIR is first installed)

Got that hurdle crossed? Cool beans.

Third hurdle. Can your reviewers launch the Adobe Captivate Reviewer AIR application in Admin mode?

If not, you need to have your IT staff ensure they have a configuration that allows them to run this AIR application using Administrative rights. Without Admin rights, the Captivate Reviewer AIR application won't be able to open and use the Captivate CREV file.

As long as you can get all the above done, it should be pretty straightforward. The hard part is actually coaxing IT to install AIR, the Captivate Reviewer AIR application and allowing the Administrative rights.

Cheers... Rick

Captivate 9 / Windows 8 with Full Admin rights on desktop PC.

When running AIR "normally", won't work because of "Administrative rights". When launching with "Run this program as an administrator" enabled, all network drive mappings are lost. CREV files will load if on a local drive.

Any fix for this?

I have the same issue.

Running it as normal allows a browse up and down the shared network tree but can NOT open the CREV files (message > try running as admin)

Running as admin can open LOCAL CREV files but all network drives disappear from view (still visble in separate Windows Explorer window). The closest I could get is if you type in an exact path you can see the files - but the comments feature needs access to the commenst SUBfolder so the commenting will not work..
