Question

Two Click Boxes on one slide

Hello,

We have a simulation recorded in Captivate 5. Each slide has a Click Box on it that is set to pause until the user clicks it, and is set to "Go to next slide," which was done automatically by Captivate during the recording process. That works fine.

What we are trying to do is add a "hint" feature to each slide. What we did was create a red rectangle and unchecked the "Visible" checkbox for it. We put that rectangle over the correct place to click (over the click box, but we put the click box "in front" of the rectangle so it's still clickable). Then we added a question mark graphic and placed a click box over that. This one is NOT set to "pause until the user clicks." We set the action to be Show > the rectangle.

What we wnat to happen is for the slide to play for 3 seconds and then pause. The user can click the correct place on the slide to advance. But if they can't figure out where to click, they can click the question mark to see the red "hint" rectangle. They can then click the correct place to proceed.

The problem we are having is that when you click the question mark icon, the red rectangle is revealed, but then the slide starts playing again, and moves on to the next slide. I want it to stay paused.

Can this be done?

Thanks!

When you click a click box, the playhead is released and moves on, that is a normal behavior.

Could you post a screenshot of the timeline? One possibility, but you'll need a pausing point then for the second click box, is to stagger the two click boxes.

  • The click box that shows the red rectangle pauses perhaps at 2,5secs. When clicked the playhead will move on but stop at
  • the second pausing point of the original click box that is set at 3secs

Have other possibilities as well, but this seems one of the easiest.

Thanks Lilybiri. That definitely helps.

We were thinking about it a bit more this morning, though, and we'd really rather make the question mark into a graphic button. We're trying that now and still running into problems.

If you stagger it as suggested above, it's behaving strangely. Let's say the click box is set to pause until the user clicks. The hint button is set to display for the whole slide but pause after 2.5, after which it's supposed to be inactive.

If I let it go, it pauses at 2.5 seconds. I click the button. It starts playing again, then pauses at 3 seconds. If I click the button again at that point (instead of the click box), the slide advances. I thought the button was supposed tl be inactive at that point? Why is it still clickable?

Here's a screenshot of the timeline:

That is why I asked for screenshots, if possible also from the stage and from the timeline.

Personally I would use an advanced action to be triggered by the second click box (that shows the rectangle): it shows the rectangle, hides the question mark and disables or even hides itself. But I'm known as the advanced actions freak. That is why I proposed a simple solution.

OK, your screenshot popped up while I was typing. If you click on the button again, you really click outside of the click box, what is the action On Failure for the Click box?
