Unable to Group Certain Items in Captivate Classic

hello fellow Classic Users:

I've run into an unusual snag; I have added a series of objects to a screen, including text, shapes, Adobe Stock icons & images (licensed), and a button.
I want to group them together so that I can have a different button change their status from hidden to visible.
Unexpectedly, the Group function is greyed out.
I was able to group one default shape and a button, but I am unable to add other objects to that group.  Even more surprisingly, I have a couple of text objects that refuse to group.
I exited the app and re-opened my working file, but I am getting the same error...and a quick web search yeilded no useful results.
Anyone else experienced this with Classic (on WinOS)
