Question

Unable to hear audio during playback

I am using Captivate v4. I created a project of approx 30 slides, and most of the slides had audio.

When reviewing each slide (F3) during the creation of the project, the audio was fine, either on my headset or from my monitor speakers.

Every so often I would review the project (F10) and again - the audio was fine via headset of PC speakers.

I completed the project last night and when I came to do a full review this morning, there was no audio from the monitor speakers.

When I checked each slide (F3), the audio was fine - it was just not working when the project was running in "Full" view.

Any ideas what might have caused this ? Has anyone else had this problem ?

I have copied my project (slide by slide) onto a new blank project and it has fixed the issue - but I need to understand what is causing the problem.

Is Captive v4 unstable ? I get "corrupt" projects on a regular basis.

In answer to your question about Captivate 4 stability: I don't really use Cp4 all that much nowadays since Cp5 came out. When I was using it I would only encounter corruption in projects on very infrequent occasions and usually after copying and pasting content too much. As a result I usually tried to avoid importing slides from other projects unless absolutely necessary.

    Rod,

Interesting what you say about Captivate 4 and the issues you had with Copy+Paste. I do a large amount of Copy+Paste when creating my projects..I use Snagit to capture images, save them as .png and then use Captivate to insert them onto the slides. I could have up to 5 .png images on some slides.

Are you saying that if I moved up to v5 - such potential corruption issues from multiple Copy+Paste may be avoided ?

Maybe I need to wait for v6 - which knowing Adobe is just around the corner....

I don't regard inserting images via the method you mention as Copy/Paste.  I was talking more about bringing in entire Captivate slides and all of their objects from other Captivate projects.  That's where I found I had problems.  It seemed like Captivate didn't rename everything to be unique at times and as a result got confused/corrupted.

I haven't had similar issues with Captivate 5.  Just starting to use Captivate 5.5. in earnest now so will see if that causes issues.

Captivate 6 will be about a year away.  The Alpha pre-release hasn't even started yet.  Wait a year if you want, but personally I think the move to Cp 5.5. from Cp4 is well worth the upgrade.

Are you working on your Captivate 4 project files via a network LAN or from your own PC hard drive?

    Hi Rod,

Well both in reply to your question.

My laptop is connected to the company network - but as a result of previous issues with Captivate - one being the time it takes to start up - I have moved all my Captivate projects etc onto the PC Hard Drive (non network).
