Unable to Publish a Responsive Project to SWF or PDF -Captivate 8

I attempted to create a responsive project on my friend's Lenovo Windows 7 laptop but I saw there was NO "publish to YouTube" or when I went into Publish, there was no way to publish to SWF or MP4.

As a test I created a brand new one slide responsive project. Same thing.  Those two options were grayed out.

When I copied my friend's file to my pc.  Same thing!  I was not able to publish to SWF or MP4 on my pc either! (I'm using a HP desktop).

Why would this happen? How to solve?

    CPTX is the extension used for all Captivate projects, normal and responsive projects. Those 'files' are in reality zipped folders with a lot of subfolders and files, content which can be different depending on the type of project: one example is the used theme which is not the same for a responsive or a normal project. Only the Video Demo projects have a different extension: cpvc. But such a video project can be included as a cpvc slide in a cptx project.  Captivate is not as simple as a Word or a PPT document,  lot more complicated.

    A responsive project is meant to respond to the device that will be used to view the course, that is the reason for the breakpoint views which can have a different layout. Example: for mobile you can choose to leave out some objects because the real estate for phone browser is much more limited. Flash player doesn't work since quite a while on mobile devices, that is why it has no sense to offer a publishing option to Flash at all for a responsive project. Both interacitve PDF and exe publishinbg options also lack for the same reasons, because both those formats are also Flash-based.

    I had something similar happen. Perhaps this post may add insight or perhaps Lily can figure this puzzle out!

    I used a powerpoint presentation to create a new CPTX file (which, is a responsive project file extension) and when I was going to publish this final project, I was given the option to publish it to YouTube, SWF and HTML5.  Really?  A responsive project published to SWF? or YouTube? 

    More to the story...

    However...... when I selected create new "responsive project" from the startup icon screen.  I was only allowed to publish a HTML5 output. So, it seems that when you start a new project using a PPTX file you have more options.  Hmmmm I don't get it.  Perhaps someone on this forum can explain. Lily? Rod? Wilson?

      A responsive project cannot be published to a MP4, to YouTube because that is a fixed size movie, not responsive.

      If you want to publish to a movie format or YouTube you have to start with a normal (blank) project.

      Oops: your title is not even talking about YouTube but about SWF or PDF. Same answer however: a responsive project is meant to be deployed for all devices, mobile or not. Flash player has been banned from all mobile devices and becomes even an issue in some browsers as well. SWF and interactive PDF's are both based on Flash. That explains why a responsive project can only be published to HTML5 or to an app (using PhoneGap).
