Question

Unable to use my own fonts in All New Captivate (CP 12)?

Are we only able to use Google fonts for CP 12?

I'm noticing that I'm not able to use this font or any font other than Google Suite fonts in CP12. Am I missing something?
I need to abide by my employer's brand guide which includes a specific font face. I have this installed locally to my computer and I have no problems accessing it from CP11 or any other Adobe CC app.

I am sorry but will try to explain the reason. Even in the previous version a responsive project could only use websafe fonts or Adobe fonts (which has an enormouse library). Reason is that those fonts need to be rendered on runtime due to the responsiveness to adapt to the browser resolution. Embedding system fonts has never been possible in Captivate. It would lead to a considerable increase in file size. It may be possible to embed them using a custom workflow but you'll need a programmer in that case.

In non-responsive projects in previous releases, static text was converted to images when publishing and didn't need to be rendered on runtime. For that type of text you could have used a system font. However even a non-responsive project can have dynamic text. A typical example are the fields on the Results slide in a quiz, because the values of the variables have to be calculated on runtime, so the text needs to be rendered on runtime. You could read some more details in my blog post (written for Captivate Classic):

Thank you for taking the time to explain, Lilybiri. I am confused by "Embedding system fonts has never been possible in Captivate." I have never had trouble using system fonts (employer brand fonts such as Gotham and Circular Pro) in the 5 years that I have used Captivate. Is that somehow different from "embedding"? I have only worked on corporate internal trainings, so projects are always nonresponsive, as employees can only use employer-provided computers to complete the trainings.

OK! I forgot to mention that users who have the fonts installed will be able to see the correct font in previous versions of Captivate, at least as long as they don't use a mobile device. You do mention that situation.

You may have seen already that I am not a fan of the new version at all. Too many decisions have been taken from the developers, and completely being unable to use system fonts, because only responsive projects can be created, is one of those decisions. Please, continue to use Classic Captivate as long as possible (at least until 2027) because it will avoid you lot of frustrations like this one. Maybe the new version will gradually have more of the present features of Classic Captivate.

To answer your question: those fonts were not embedded, they are just retrieved from the system on which the course has been opened. You could test possible problems with dynamic text fields in a non-responsive project by opening the course on a tablet or a phone. You'll see that the fonts in dynamic text will be replaced by a standard font.
